The specification establishes the standard format, content, number of characters, and physical requirements for bicycle serial numbers that can help facilitate recall campaigns and identification of the item.
SCOPE
1.1 This standard specifies the format, content, number of characters and physical requirements for serial numbers to facilitate recall campaigns and identification of stolen property.  
1.2 This standard is applicable to all bicycles, refer to Classification F2043 on definition for bicycle.  
1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
