ABSTRACT
This specification covers the standard for the more commonly used types of round stainless steel wire intended especially for stranding into wire rope. Chemical analysis shall be performed on the steel and the chemical composition shall conform to the required values in carbon, manganese phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and nitrogen. The material shall also meet the requirements in tensile strength.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the more commonly used types of round stainless steel wire intended especially for stranding into wire rope.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers general requirements that shall apply to stainless wire and wire rods. Wire is intended primarily for cold forming, including coiling, stranding, weaving, heading and machining as covered under the required specifications. The material may be furnished in one of the conditions detailed in the applicable material specification, that is, annealed, bright annealed, or cold worked. Intergranular corrosion test, grain size test, tension test, and chemical analysis shall conform to the chemical and mechanical requirements of the material specification.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers general requirements that shall apply to stainless wire and wire rods. Wire rods are a semifinished product intended primarily for the manufacture of wire. Wire is intended primarily for cold forming, including coiling, stranding, weaving, heading and machining as covered under the latest revision of each of the following ASTM specifications: A313/A313M, A368, A478, A492, A493, A580/A580M, and A581/A581M.  
1.2 In case of conflicting requirements, the individual material specification and this general requirement specification shall prevail in the order named.  
1.3 General requirements for flat products other than wire are covered in Specification A480/A480M.  
1.4 General requirements for bar and billet products are covered in Specification A484/A484M.

Standard Test Method for Evaluating Bond Strength for 0.600-in. [15.24-mm] Diameter Seven-Wire Steel Strand, Grade 270 [1860], Used in Prestressed Ground Anchors

ABSTRACT
This test method deals with the standard procedures for establishing the relative bond strength of Grade 270 prestressing steel strands of specified diameter in cement grout as used in prestressed ground anchors for evaluating the effects of manufacturing practices on bond strength. The bond strength values obtained shall not be used to design the bond strength of ground anchors that depend on field conditions. This test method is not intended to be used as a bond test for pretensioned concrete applications. The test specimen shall be cut from standard production coils and shall not be wiped or cleaned. Pull test shall be made in accordance with the method.
SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 Seven-wire steel strand is used in pre-tensioned and post-tensioned concrete construction.  
4.2 0.600 in. [15.24 mm] diameter, Grade 270 seven-wire steel strand is used to make prestressed ground anchors which are often bonded to cement grout.  
4.3 Manufacturing processes, subsequent handling, and storage conditions may influence the strand bond.  
4.4 The primary use of this test method is to establish the relative bond strength of 0.600 in. [15.24 mm] seven-wire steel strand.  
4.5 The relative bond strength is determined by recording the pullout force at a certain displacement of the strand.

1.1 This test method describes procedures to establish the relative bond strength of 0.600 in. [15.24 mm] diameter, Grade 270 [1860] seven-wire steel strand in cement grout as used in prestressed ground anchors for the purpose of evaluating the effects of manufacturing practices on bond strength.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers stainless steel wire, except the free-machining types. It includes round, square, octagon, hexagon, and shape wire in coils only for the more commonly used types of stainless steels for general corrosion resistance and high-temperature service. The steel specimens shall undergo the following conditions: (1) annealed as a final heat treatment; (2) cold worked to higher strength; (3) heat treated to an intermediate temper; or (4) heat treated to a hard temper by austenitizing, quenching, and tempering at a relatively low temperature. The materials shall be cold drawn, annealed, and pickled. The steel wires shall conform to the required chemical compositions of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, nitrogen, and other elements such as niobium , vanadium, copper, tantalum, titanium and cobalt. Mechanical test shall be performed wherein in the steel specimens shall conform to the required values of tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. The martensitic grades shall conform to the required values of hardness after heat treatment.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Steel wire for concrete reinforcement is used in various applications wherein the wire is expected to transfer passive or prestressing forces to the structural member via the bond of the exposed wire surfaces to the surrounding concrete.  
5.2 Wire manufacturing processes, subsequent handling, and storage conditions can influence the wire bond.  
5.3 Steel wire for concrete reinforcement is used in construction applications with a variety of concrete mixtures. Developing test methods and threshold values for the performance of the wire in each of these unique mixtures is impractical.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method describes procedures for evaluating bond of individual steel wire, indented or plain, for concrete reinforcement. The bond determined by this test method is stated as the tensile force needed to pull the wire through the cured mortar in a cylindrical steel casing.  
1.2 The result of the test is the maximum tensile force measured on the loaded end of the wire recorded at a free-end slip less than or equal to 0.10 in. [2.5 mm].

ABSTRACT
This specification covers carbon steel flat wire in coils or cut lengths. The steel materials shall be produced from rimmed, capped, semi-killed, hot-rolled or cold-rolled steel. The steel specimens shall undergo cast or heat analysis and product analysis and shall conform to the required chemical compositions of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, and copper. The desired edge shall be classified as follows: prepared edge of a specified contour produced when a very accurate width is required or when the finish of the edge suitable for electroplating is required, or both (Number 1 Edge); not applicable to flat wire products ( Number 2 Edge); approximately square edge produced by slitting (Number 3 Edge); rounded edge produced either by edge rolling or resulting from flat rolling of a round section (Number 4 Edge); square edge produced from slit-edge material on which the burr is eliminated by rolling or filling (Number 5 Edge); and square edge produced by edge rolling when the width tolerance and edge condition are not as exacting as for No. 1 Edge (Number 6 Edge). The dimensional tolerances shall conform to the required values of thickness, width and length. The steel materials shall conform to the required values of temper, Rockwell hardness and tensile strength.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers carbon steel flat wire in coils or cut lengths. Flat wire is classified as a cold-rolled section, rectangular in shape, 0.500 in. [12.7 mm] or less in width and under 0.250 in. [6.35 mm] in thickness.  
1.2 Low-carbon steel flat wire is produced from steel compositions with a maximum carbon content of 0.25 % by cast or heat analysis.  
1.3 Carbon spring steel flat wire is produced to a carbon range in which the specified or required maximum is over 0.25 % by cast or heat analysis.  
1.3.1 Two types of carbon spring steel flat wire are produced:
1.3.1.1 Untempered cold-rolled carbon spring steel flat wire, produced to several desirable combinations of properties and

ABSTRACT
This specification covers stranded steel wire ropes of various grades and constructions manufactured from uncoated or metallic coated wire and cord products manufactured from metallic coated wire. Dimensional characteristics include the diameter and lay length of the rope. Mechanical property requirements include: rope breaking force, spinning loss factor, and stretch; and wire torsions, tensile strength, tensile grade, and level. Cores of stranded ropes shall normally either be of steel or fiber composition. All wire ropes shall be lubricated and impregnated in the manufacturing process. Wire finish may be final-galvanized rope or drawn-galvanized (zinc coated) rope. Rope workmanship and finish; testing and compliance; acceptance tests; and packaging and identification are also detailed.

Standard Specification for Stress-Relieved Steel Wire for Prestressed Concrete

ABSTRACT
This specification covers two types of uncoated stress-relieved round high-carbon steel wire commonly used in prestressed linear concrete construction. These two types are the type BA used for applications in which cold-end deformation is used for anchoring purposes and type WA wire which is used for application in which the ends are anchored by wedges, no cold-end deformation of the wire is involved. Required tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation shall be evaluated using stress-relaxation test. Heat analysis shall be used to determine the percentage of specified elements especially sulfur and phosphorus to meet the required chemical composition.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers two types of stress-relieved round high-carbon steel wire used in prestressed concrete construction, as follows:  
1.1.1 Type BA wire is used for applications in which cold-end deformation is used for anchoring purposes (Button Anchorage), and  
1.1.2 Type WA wire is used for application in which the ends are anchored by wedges, and no cold-end deformation of the wire is involved (Wedge Anchorage).  
1.2 A supplementary requirement (S1) is provided for use where low-relaxation wire and relaxation testing for that product is required by the purchaser. The supplementary requirement applies only when specified in the purchase order or contract.  
1.3 This specification is applicable for orders in either inch-pounds units (as Specification A421) or in SI units (as Specification A421M).
