Standard Performance Specification for Men's and Women's Sliver Knitted Overcoat and Jacket Fabrics

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 Upon mutual agreement between the purchaser and the seller, woven fabrics intended for this end use should meet all of the requirements listed in Table 1 of this specification.
4.2 It is recognized that for purposes of fashion or aesthetics the ultimate consumer of articles made from these fabrics may find acceptable fabrics that do not conform to all of the requirements in Table 1. Therefore, one or more of the requirements listed in Table 1 may be modified by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the seller.  
4.2.1 In such cases, any references to the specification shall specify that: This fabric meets ASTM Specification D3655 except for the following characteristic(s).  
4.3 Where no prepurchase agreement has been reached between the purchaser and the seller, and in case of controversy, the requirements listed in Table 1 are intended to be used as a guide only. As noted in 4.2, ultimate consumer demands dictate varying performance parameters for any particular style of fabric.  
4.4 The uses and significance of particular properties and test methods are discussed in the appropriate sections of the specified test methods.
SCOPE
1.1 This performance specification covers men's and women's sliver knitted overcoat and jacket fabrics composed of any textile fiber or mixture of textile fibers.  
1.2 This performance specification is not applicable to knitted fabrics used for interlinings.  
1.3 These requirements apply to the length and width directions for those properties where fabric direction is pertinent.  
1.4 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test methods portion, Section 7, of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. ABSTRACT
This specification covers the evaluation of specific performance characteristics of importance in seamless knit garments, including camisoles, panties, slips, girdles and swimwear. Different tests shall be conducted in order to determine the following properties of seamless knit garments: bursting strength, colorfastness to laundering, colorfastness to drycleaning, colorfastness to crocking, colorfastness to light, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to intimates, colorfastness to sea water, colorfastness to chlorinated pool water, colorfastness to chlorine and non-chlorine bleach, dimensional change, stretch, flammability, garnet twist, and fiber content.

1.2 T-shirts' characteristics may be assessed either as a final product or at any intermediate processing stage.  
1.3 This practice excludes T-shirts intended for hand washing or dry cleaning care.  
1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined.

5.2.1 If any of the requirements in Table 1 are modified by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the seller, any reference to the specification shall specify that “this fabric meets ASTM Specification D3782 except for the following characteristic(s).”

SCOPE
1.1 This performance specification covers men's and boys' knitted dress suit and knitted sportswear jacket, slack, and trouser fabrics composed of any textile fiber or mixture of textile fibers.

Standard Performance Specification for Woven Blouse, Dress, Dress Shirt & Sport Shirt Fabrics

ABSTRACT
This performance specification covers fabrics for woven blouses, dresses, dress shirts, and sport shirts. It is not however applicable to woven fabrics used for interlinings. These requirements apply to the length and width directions for those properties where fabric direction is pertinent. The fabrics shall meet the following performance requirements: breaking strength which shall be determined using a constant rate of extension tensile testing machine; resistance to yarn slippage; tearing strength; dimensional change during pressing and finishing, after laundering, or after dry cleaning; colorfastness to laundering and dry cleaning; shade change due to sodium hypochlorite bleaching or non-chlorine bleaching, burnt gas fumes, dry and wet crocking, perspiration, and xenon-arc light; fabric smoothness after pressing, laundering, and dry cleaning; and flammability.
SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 Fabrics intended for this end-use should meet all of the requirements listed in Table 1.  (A) There is more than one method that can be used to measure breaking strength, tearing strength and colorfastness. These methods cannot be used interchangeably since there may be no overall correlation between them (see Note 2 and Note 3).(B) See Note 5.  
4.2 It should be recognized that fabrics can be produced utilizing an almost infinite number of combinations of construction variables (e.g., type of fibers, percentage of fibers, yarn twist, yarn number, warp and pick count, chemical and mechanical finishes). Additionally, fashion or aesthetics dictate that the ultimate consumer may find acceptable articles made from fabrics that do not conform to all of the requirements in Table 1.  
4.2.1 Hence, no single performance specification can possibly apply to all the various fabrics that could be utilized for this end-use.
