This European Standard specifies the characteristics of floor coverings based on polyvinyl chloride and modifications thereof, on jute or polyester backing or on polyester felt with polyvinyl chloride backing, supplied in either tile or roll form.
To encourage the consumer to make an informed choice the standard includes a classification system (see EN 685) based on intensity of use, which shows where these floor coverings should give satisfactory service. It also specifies requirements for marking.

Diese Europäische Norm legt die Eigenschaften von Bodenbelägen auf der Basis von Polyvinylchlorid und dessen Modifikationen, ausgestattet mit einem Rücken aus Jute oder Polyestervlies oder aus Polyestervlies mit einem Rücken aus Polyvinylchlorid fest, die sowohl in Form von Platten als auch als Rollen geliefert werden.
Um den Verbraucher bei seiner Auswahl zu unterstützen, enthält diese Norm ein Klassifizierungssystem (siehe EN 685) auf Basis der Nutzungsintensität, das zeigt, wo für diese Bodenbeläge ein zufriedenstellender Nutzen möglich wäre. Die Norm legt auch die Anforderungen zur Kennzeichnung fest.

La présente Norme européenne prescrit les caractéristiques des revêtements de sol à base de polychlorure de vinyle et leurs déclinaisons sur support de jute ou de feutre de polyester, ou sur support de feutre de polyester avec envers en polychlorure de vinyle, fournis sous forme de dalles ou de rouleau.
Pour aider le consommateur à choisir en connaissance de cause, la présente norme inclut un système de classification (voir l’EN 685) basé sur l'intensité d'usage, indiquant l’endroit où ces revêtements de sol sont les plus appropriés. Elle prescrit également des exigences relatives au marquage.

Ta evropski standard določa značilnosti talnih oblog na osnovi polivinilklorida in njegovih sprememb na jutnem ali poliestrskem hrbtišču ali na poliestrski vlaknovini s polivinilkloridnim hrbtiščem, ki so na voljo v obliki plošč ali zvitkov. Da bi ta standard potrošnike spodbujal k sprejemanju utemeljenih odločitev, vsebuje sistem razvrščanja (glej EN 685) na podlagi intenzivnosti uporabe, ki kaže, kje bi se te talne obloge lahko zadovoljivo uporabljale. Vključuje tudi zahteve za označevanje.
