Jewellery - Ring-sizes - Definition, measurement and designation (ISO 8653:2016)

ISO 8653:2016 specifies a method to measure the ring-size using a ring stick with defined characteristics, which is mainly used during manufacturing steps, and specifies the designation of the ring-size.
NOTE For jeweller-consumer relationships, the finger size is measured with a finger gauge set made up of a ring for each size with the same diameter and tolerance than the ring stick ones.

Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Messung der Ringgröße unter Verwendung eines Ringstockes mit definierten Eigenschaften fest, der hauptsächlich während der Herstellungsschritte verwendet wird, und legt die Bezeichnung der Ringgröße fest.
ANMERKUNG   Für die Beziehungen zwischen Juwelier und Verbraucher wird die Fingergröße mit einem Fingermessgerät gemessen, das aus einem Ring für jede Größe besteht, der den gleichen Durchmesser und die gleiche Toleranz wie der Ringstock hat.

prEN ISO 8653 (ISO 8653:2016) is an international jewellery standard that defines ring-sizes - definition, measurement and designation. It specifies a reproducible method for measuring ring internal circumference using a ring stick with precisely defined characteristics (primarily for manufacturing and quality-control steps) and provides rules for how ring-sizes are to be designated. For customer fitting, the standard notes that a finger gauge set (rings for each size) with the same diameters/tolerances should be used.

The text of ISO 8653:2016 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 174 "Jewellery and
precious metals” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as
of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2026, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2026.
