This document is applicable to one-kilogram cast gold bars produced for investment markets or industrial (jewellery, electronic) markets.

prEN ISO 24018 (ISO 24018:2020) defines standardized specifications for the 1 kilogram gold bar (gold kilobar). It covers requirements, test methods, inspection, marking, packaging, transportation, storage, the certificate of analysis and order/contract information for cast 1 kg gold bars produced for investment and industrial (jewellery, electronics) markets. The standard helps harmonize quality, reduce market rejection and support transparent trading of gold kilobars.

• Marking: Permanent markings only on the top surface using stamping, dot matrix or laser. Minimum marks: manufacturer name/logo, “gold” or “Au”, mass (kg or g), fineness (‰ or %), and unique serial number.
• Security feature: Optional on any side; if it adds mass, disclosure on the certificate is required. Must not compromise physical specs.
• Certificate of analysis: Mandatory with each bar; must include manufacturer, nature of metal, mass, fineness, serial number, manufacturing date, signature and ISO reference when applicable.
• Packaging: Recommendation to pack 25 × 1 kg bars per case; bars must be protected during transport and storage.

The text of ISO 24018:2020 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 174 "Jewellery and
precious metals” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as
secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2026, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2026.
