Preparation of steel substrates before application of paints and related products - Surface preparation methods - Part 3: Hand- and power-tool cleaning (ISO 8504-3:1993)

Describes the equipment to be used and the procedure to be followed. Applies both to new steelwork and to steel surfaces that have been coated previously and that show areas of breakdown requiring maintenance painting. Annexes A and B describe types of hand tools and power tools, respectively, and their uses.

Anwendungsbereich
Dieser Teil von ISO 8504 beschreibt Verfahren für das Reinigen von Stahloberflächen mit Handwerkzeugen und mit maschinell angetriebenen Werkzeugen vor dem Auftragen von Beschichtungsstoffen. Er gilt für unbeschichtete und für beschichtete Stahloberflächen, die Schadensbereiche aufweisen, welche eine Instandsetzung der Beschichtung erfordern. Er beschreibt die zu verwendenden Werkzeuge und wie man sie benutzen muss.

La présente partie de l'ISO 8504 prescrit des méthodes de nettoyage à la main et à la machine de subjectiles d'acier avant application de peintures et de produits assimilés. Elle est applicable tant à l'acier neuf qu'à des subjectiles d'acier déjà recouverts, qui présentent des zones de défauts nécessitant l'application d'une peinture d'entretien. Elle décrit l'appareillage à utiliser et les procédures à suivre.

The text of the International Standard from Technical Committee ISO/TC 35 "Paints and varnishes" of the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has been taken over as an European Standard by
Technical Committee CEN/TC 139 "Paints and varnishes", the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by November 2001, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by November 2001.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
