Bitumen and bituminous binders - Framework for specification of hard industrial bitumens

This European Standard provides a framework for the specification of hard industrial bitumens used mainly in flooring, varnishes, mineral rubber, roofing and mastic.
Within Europe several types of hard industrial bitumen are used, and dependent upon traditional practices, different grades may be used for the same purpose. The framework given in this European standard provides a basis for quality agreements to be established between supplier and client.
The hard industrial bitumen products are graded by the limits of the ring and ball softening point values, expressed as multiples of 5, and are characterised by an H in front of the values.

Diese Europäische Norm legt einen Rahmen für die Anforderungen an Hartbitumen fest, die hauptsächlich in Fußböden, Lacken, geblasenen Bitumen, Dachbelägen und Mastix verwendet werden.
In Europa werden verschiedene Arten Hartbitumen verwendet. Je nach traditioneller Technik können unterschiedliche Sorten für denselben Zweck verwendet werden. Der in dieser Norm enthaltene Rahmen liefert eine Grundlage für Qualitätsvereinbarungen zwischen dem Lieferanten und dem Kunden.
Die Produkte von Hartbitumen werden durch die Grenzwerte des Erweichungspunktes Ring und Kugel unterteilt, ausgedrückt als Vielfache von 5 und durch ein H vor den Werten gekennzeichnet.

La présente Norme européenne prescrit un cadre pour les spécifications des bitumes industriels durs utilisés principalement dans les revêtements de sols, les vernis, les caoutchoucs, les toitures et les mastics. Plusieurs types de bitumes industriels durs sont utilisés en Europe, et en fonction des conditions climatiques, du type de construction et des pratiques traditionnelles, des qualités différentes peuvent être utilisés pour des applications similaires. Le cadre indiqué dans la présente norme européenne fournit une base pour les accords portant sur la qualité établis entre client et fournisseur. Les bitumes industriels durs sont classés selon les limites du point de ramollissement Bille Anneau, exprimés par multiples de 5, et sont désignés par la lettre H placée avant ces valeurs.

EN 13305:2009 (E) 3 Foreword This document (EN 13305:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 336 “Bituminous binders”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2009, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2009. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. This document specifies a general method of using a dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) for measuring the rheological properties of bituminous binders. The procedure involves determining the complex shear modulus and phase angle of binders over a range of test frequencies and test temperatures when tested in oscillatory shear.
From the test, the complex shear modulus, |G*|, and its phase angle, δ, at a given temperature and frequency are calculated, as well as the components G' and G" of the complex shear modulus.
This method is applicable to un-aged, aged, stabilized and recovered bituminous binders. The test procedure in accordance with this document is not applicable for bituminous binders with particles larger than 250 μm (e.g. filler material, granulated rubber).

Other temperatures are possible if calibration constants are known. Bituminous emulsions are not covered within the scope of this method.
Results for this method can be used to calculate dynamic viscosity when the density of the test material is known or can be determined.

This document specifies the Binder Fast Characterization Test (for short: BTSV test, German: Bitumen-Typisierungs-Schnell-Verfahren). The test is conducted using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR). It is used to characterize bitumen and bituminous binders and to assess the deformation behaviour at high service temperatures.
The test procedure described in this document covers the testing of paving grade bitumen or modified bitumen, as fresh (unused) binders, as well as binders after laboratory ageing conditioning (e.g. EN 12607-1, EN 14769), and also binders that have been recovered from asphalt mixtures. The test procedure in accordance with this document is not applicable for bituminous binders with particles larger than 250 μm (e.g. filler material, granulated rubber).
NOTE   The test procedure has not been applied on bituminous binders recovered from bitumen emulsions yet.
The test determines the temperature and the associated phase angle at which a bituminous binder exhibits a defined complex shear modulus in stress-controlled oscillation mode at constant frequency and with continuous increase of the test temperature.
