windows, shutters, building hardware and curtain walling”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 13126-10:2008.
In comparison with the previous edition, the following technical modifications have been made:
— EN 13126-10 now is independent from EN 13126-1; all necessary information is included without
the need of any further information from EN 13126-1;
— several editorial changes in the wording for a better understanding;
— terms under 3.3 'specimen', 3.4 'sample', and 3.5 'test-rig', 3.6 ‘test equipment and 3.7 ‘supporting
sub frame’ added;
— under 4.1 classification system changed completely; former digits 1 (Category of use), 4 (Fire
resistance), 5 (Safety in use) deleted; former digit 2 changed into box 1 (Durability), former digit 3
changed into box 2 (Mass), former digit 6 changed into box 3 (Corrosion resistance), former digit 9
changed into box 4 (Test sizes) and former digit 8 (Applicable part) changed into box 5 (type);
— under 4.2 new Grades for the number of cycles defined; H1 (5 000), H2 (10 000) and H3 (20 000);
see also 5.2;
— under 4.6 new subclause added for the type of arm-balancing system;
— under 4.7 new example added for the new classification;
— under 5.2 new Grades for the number of cycles defined; H1 (5 000), H2 (10 000) and H3 (20 000) in
accordance with 4.2 established;
— under 5.4. ‘Corrosion resistance’ new text added;
— under Clause 6 subclauses 6.1 ‘Test rig’ and 6.2 ‘Specimen’ added or text amended;
— under 7.4 ‘Corrosion resistance’ text modified;
— new Clause 8 ‘Marking’ added;
EN 13126, Building hardware — Hardware for windows and door height windows — Requirements and
test methods consists of the following parts:
— Part 1: Requirements common to all types of hardware;
— Part 2: Window fastener handles;
— Part 3: Handles, primarily for Tilt and Turn, Tilt-First and Turn-Only hardware;
— Part 4: Espagnolettes;

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
ISO and IEC maintain terminology databases for use in standardization at the following addresses:
— IEC Electropedia: available at https://www.electropedia.org/
— ISO Online browsing platform: available at https://www.iso.org/obp
3.1
hinge assembly
assembly connecting sash and frame to limit movement of sash during opening
3.2
support arm
arm connecting sash and frame to control direction of opening
3.3
specimen
window without gaskets to accommodate hardware components (samples) for testing
3.4
sample
hardware component which shall be tested
3.5
test-rig
testing device onto which the sample is mounted
3.6
test equipment
series of various testing rigs, devices and machinery enabling testing to be carried out
3.7
supporting sub frame
supplementary fixing frame surrounding the specimen enabling it to be mounted on the test rig while
testing
Note 1 to entry: For example, wood, steel or aluminium could be used.
4 Classification
4.1 General
Arm-balancing systems shall be classified with the five-box classification system (see Table 1).
Table 1 — Classification system
box 1 2 3 4 5
Corrosion
characteristic Durability Mass Test sizes Type
resistance
4.2 Durability (1 – first box)
The first box shall display the Grade for the number of cycles applied to the durability test in accordance
with the following requirements:
— Grade H1 5 000 cycles
— Grade H2 10 000 cycles
— Grade H3 20 000 cycles
4.3 Mass (2 – second box)
The second box shall display the maximum tested sash mass (weight).
The mass range starts from 20 kg and varies in steps of 10 kg. An unlimited number of grades are
identified, whereby 020 is the lowest (see Table 2).
Table 2 — Tested sash-mass
Grade 020 030 040 050 060 070 080 090 100 110 …
20 30
Mass (kg) 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 110 …
4.4 Corrosion resistance (3 – third box)
The third box shall display the Grade regarding corrosion resistance in accordance with 5.4.
4.5 Test sizes (4 – fourth box)
The test size is:
Sash Rebate Width (SRW) in mm X Sash Rebate Height (SRH) in mm.
EXAMPLE 1 200 mm SRW X 900 mm SRH.
The specified size is a test size only. It does not relate to the maximum size to which a window may be
fabricated.
For instances where an arm-balancing system is available in a range of sizes to suit differing window sizes
it shall be tested at the size which gives the most severe impact on the hardware, as recommended by the
hardware manufacturer. This size is then recorded as the fourth box.
4.6 Type of arm-balancing system (5 – fifth box)
The fifth box shall display the Grade of the security against burglar attack:
