Pour les essences non mentionnées, il convient de définir les limites des singularités énumérées dans le Tableau 3.

EN 13990:2004 - Wood flooring - Solid softwood floor boards is a CEN European Standard that specifies the characteristics, dimensions and delivery requirements for solid softwood floor boards with tongue-and-groove profiles intended for internal use. The standard covers product definition, profiles, machining, grading, moisture content, marking, packaging and procedures for sampling and inspection. Applicable wood species explicitly include Norway spruce, silver fir, Sitka spruce, Scots pine, European larch and Douglas fir; other species may be used if agreed by the parties.

• Product scope: Tongued-and-grooved solid softwood boards, planed on four sides; ends may be plain-cut, end-matched or finger-jointed.
• Profiles: Defined tongue, groove, undercut and lip geometries to ensure well‑matched joints over full length.
• Dimensions & reference moisture content: Dimensions are specified at reference moisture contents of 9% (heated indoor spaces) and 17% (other internal uses). Moisture delivery tolerances are (9 ± 2)% or (17 ± 2)%, with limited allowance for deviations in a consignment.
• Thickness, width and length rules: Machined thicknesses and a range of widths are specified; lengths supplied in agreed increments (boards without end profiles ≥ 1.5 m).
• Appearance and grading: Two grading classes (Grade A and Grade B) define allowable knots, resin pockets, shakes, pith, wane and other features. Up to 5% of a consignment may be in the next lower grade. A “free grade” may be contractually agreed.
• Machining & quality: Boards must be planed smooth, tongues and grooves must fit, and cutter marks/burns/ machine damage are limited by grade.
• Marking & delivery: Packages must be labelled with product name, profile, thickness, width, length, grade, moisture content, species and reference to EN 13990. Boards below 15% moisture should be packed in moisture-resistant packaging.
• Sampling & inspection: Sampling plans and acceptance criteria for dimensions, moisture and grading are defined for dispute resolution.

• Flooring manufacturers and millworkers - to design, produce and label compliant softwood boards.
• Product specifiers, architects and engineers - to select appropriate solid softwood flooring for internal projects.
• Contractors and installers - for acceptance checks (moisture, fit and grade) on delivery.
• Quality inspectors and traders - for sampling, inspection and contractual compliance.

Typical applications: internal room flooring for residential and commercial buildings where natural softwood floorboards are specified.
