This document specifies the equipment and procedures for determining the coefficient of linear thermal expansion. It is applicable to thermal insulating products within the temperature range −196 °C to 850 °C, subject to the possible temperature limitation of the test specimens. It is not applicable to products which experience dimensional changes during the test due to the loss of hydration water or which undergo other phase changes.

Es gilt für Wärmedämmprodukte innerhalb eines Temperaturbereichs von −196 °C bis 850 °C, was aber von der möglichen Temperaturbegrenzung für die Probekörper abhängt. Es gilt nicht für Produkte, die während der Prüfung aufgrund des Verlusts von Hydratwasser Maßänderungen erfahren oder die anderen Gefügeveränderungen unterliegen.Dieses Dokument legt die Prüfeinrichtungen und Verfahren zum Bestimmen des linearen Wärme-ausdehnungskoeffizienten fest. Il s’applique aux produits isolants thermiques utilisés dans une gamme de températures allant de ‑196 °C à 850 °C, mais il est sujet à une éventuelle limitation de température imposée par les éprouvettes. Elle ne s’applique pas aux produits subissant au cours de l’essai des variations dimensionnelles dues à une perte en eau ou subissant d’autres changements de phase.

Ta evropski standard določa opremo in postopke za ugotavljanje koeficienta toplotne razteznosti. Ta standard se uporablja za toplotnoizolacijske proizvode v temperaturnem območju od 196 °C do 850 °C ob upoštevanju morebitne temperaturne omejitve preskušancev. Ne sme se uporabljati za proizvode, pri katerih pride med preskusom do dimenzijskih sprememb zaradi izgube hidratacijske vode oziroma drugih faznih sprememb.
OPOMBA: Zaradi majhnih dimenzij naj bo preskušanec skrbno izbran, da bo reprezentativen za proizvod, ki se preskuša.

This document (EN ISO 18099:2022) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 163/SC 1
"Test and measurement methods" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 88 “Thermal
insulating materials and products” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2023, and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by September 2025.
