ISO 23553-1 specifies safety, constructional and performance requirements, and testing of safety shut-off devices, for liquid fuels.
ISO 23553-1 covers type testing only.
It applies to safety shut-off devices which: are designed as e.g. automatic valves or fast-closing devices; are used in combustion plants to interrupt the flow of liquid fuels with or without delay on closing and with or without delay on opening; are for use with fuel oils; form part of a device having other function(s), such as oil pumps — in this case the test methods apply to those parts or components of the device forming the safety shut-off device, i.e. those parts which are necessary for the closing function; have declared maximum working pressures up to and including 5 000 kPa, for use on burners or in appliances using liquid fuels; are directly or indirectly operated electrically or by mechanical or hydraulic means; and are fitted with or without closed-position indicator switches.
The methods of test given in ISO 23553-1 are intended for product type testing.

Dieser Teil der ISO 23533 legt die Anforderungen an die Sicherheit, konstruktive Ausführung und Leistung
sowie die Prüfung von Sicherheitsabsperreinrichtungen für flüssige Brennstoffe fest.
Dieser Teil der ISO 23533 behandelt nur die Typprüfung.
Er gilt für Sicherheitsabsperreinrichtungen, die
- z. B. als automatische Ventile oder als Schnellschlussvorrichtungen konstruiert sind,
- in Feuerungsanlagen eingesetzt werden und den Durchfluss flüssiger Brennstoffe beim Schließen und
Öffnen verzögert oder unverzögert absperren bzw. frei geben,
- bei Heizölen verwendet werden,
ANMERKUNG Bei anderen flüssigen Brennstoffen können zwischen dem Hersteller und der Prüfbehörde
zusätzliche Prüfverfahren vereinbart werden.
- Bestandteile eines Gerätes mit anderen Funktionen sind, wie beispielsweise Ölpumpen. In diesem Fall
gelten die Prüfverfahren für die Teile oder Bauteile der Einrichtung, die die Sicherheitsabsperreinrichtung
bilden, d. h. für diejenigen Teile, die für die Schließfunktion erforderlich sind,
- zulässige Nenn-Betriebsdrücke bis einschließlich 5 000 kPa aufweisen und für den Einsatz in Brennern
oder Einrichtungen vorgesehen sind, die flüssige Brennstoffe verwenden,
- direkt oder indirekt elektrisch betätigt oder durch mechanische oder hydraulische Mittel betätigt werden,
- mit Meldeschaltern ausgestattet sind oder nicht.
Die in diesem Teil der ISO 23553 angegebenen Prüfverfahren sind für die Typprüfung des Produktes
vorgesehen.

L'ISO 23523-1:2009 s'applique aux dispositifs de coupure de sécurité qui:
sont conçus pour fonctionner par exemple comme des vannes automatiques ou des dispositifs à fermeture rapide;

sont utilisés pour des appareils fonctionnant au fioul;
font partie d'un dispositif ayant d'autres fonctions, par exemple des pompes à huile — dans ce cas, les méthodes d'essai s'appliquent aux parties ou aux composants du dispositif qui constituent le dispositif de coupure de sécurité, c'est-à-dire les parties qui sont nécessaires à la fonction de fermeture;
présentent des pressions de service maximales déclarées allant jusqu'à 5 000 kPa inclus, à utiliser avec des brûleurs ou dans des applications utilisant des combustibles liquides;
sont actionnés directement ou indirectement par un moyen électrique, mécanique ou hydraulique;
sont équipés ou non de commutateurs à indicateurs de position fermée.

Foreword
The text of ISO 23553-1:2007, including Cor 1:2009 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 161
“Control and safety devices for non-industrial gas-fired appliances and systems - STAND- BY” of the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO 23553-1:2009 by
Technical Committee CEN/TC 47 “Atomizing oil burners and their components - Function - Safety - Testing”
the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by December 2009, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn
at the latest by December 2009.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 264:1991.
