Optical fibre cables - Part 2: Indoor cables - Sectional specification

IEC 60794-2:2017 is a sectional specification. It gives the requirements that apply to optical fibre cables for indoor use in communications networks. Other types of applications requiring similar types of cables can be considered. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2002. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - the specification has been streamlined by cross-referencing with IEC 60794-1-1 and IEC TR 61931; - the document structure has been aligned with IEC 60794-3, and Clause 4 on optical fibres was added; - transmission requirements in Clause 4 were added; - the electrical conductors and the lay-up of the cable elements were introduced into Article 5 on cable elements and construction; - 5.13 on identification was separated in fibre, unit and sheath colour coding; - the colour coding proposals were extended to accommodate latest fibre categories; - Article 6 on installation and operating condition was added; - cable element tests and cable tests have been simplified by the use of tables instead of text; - a bibliography has been added. IEC 60794-2:2017 est une spécification intermédiaire. Elle donne les exigences relatives aux câbles à fibres optiques destinés à être utilisés en intérieur dans des réseaux de communication. Il peut être envisagé de considérer d'autres types d'applications nécessitant des câbles d'un type similaire. Cette quatrième édition annule et remplace la troisième édition parue en 2002, dont elle constitue une révision technique. Cette édition inclut les modifications techniques majeures suivantes par rapport à l'édition précédente: - la spécification a été rationalisée par établissement de correspondances avec l'IEC 60794-1-1 et l'IEC TR 61931; - la structure du document a été alignée sur celle de l'IEC 60794-3, et l'Article 4 sur les fibres optiques a été ajouté; - les exigences de transmission dans l'Article 4 ont été ajoutées; - les conducteurs électriques et l'assemblage des éléments de câble ont été introduits dans l'Article 5 sur les éléments de câble et la construction des câbles; - le paragraphe 5.13 sur l'identification a été divisé en trois parties: le codage par couleurs des fibres, le codage par couleurs des unités et le codage par couleurs des gaines; - les propositions de codage par couleurs ont été étendues pour tenir compte des dernières catégories de fibres; - l'Article 6 sur les conditions d'installation et de fonctionnement a été ajouté; - les essais sur les éléments de câble et les essais sur les câbles ont été simplifiés en remplaçant le texte par des tableaux; - une bibliographie a été ajoutée. FOREWORD

1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising

all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote

international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To

this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
