INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION
FLANGES FOR WAVEGUIDES
Part 1: General requirements
FOREWORD
I) The formal decisions or agreements of the I EC on technical matters, prepared by Technical Committees on which all the National
Committees having a special interest therein are represented, express, as nearly as possible, an international consensus of opinion
on the subjects dealt with.
They have the form of recommendations for inte
2) rnational use and they are accepted by the National Committees in that
sense.
3) In order to promote inte rnational unification, the I EC expresses the wish that all National Committees should adopt the text of
the IEC recommendation for their national rules in so far as national conditions will permit. Any divergence between the IEC
recommendation and the corresponding national rules should, as far as possible, be clearly indicated in the latter.
4) The I EC has not laid down any procedure concerning marking as an
indication of approval and has no responsibility when an
item of equipment is declared to comply with one of its recommendations.
PREFACE
This standard has been prepared by Sub-Committee 46B: Waveguides and their Accessories, of IEC Technical Committee
No. 46: Cables, Wires and Waveguides for Telecommunication Equipment.
It forms the second edition of Pa rt 1 of I EC Publication 154 dealing with flanges for waveguides.
Detail information on the specific types of flanges is given in the relevant specifications issued as separate publications.
A draft amending the scope was circulated to the National Committees for comment under the Accelerated Procedure in January
1978. Subsequently, a draft, Document 46B(Central Office)88, was submitted to the National Committees for approval under the Six
Months' Rule in October 1980.
The National Committees of the following countries voted explicitly in favour of publication:
Belgium Sweden
Egypt Switzerland
France Turkey
German Democratic Republic Union of Soviet
Germany Socialist Republics
Poland United Kingdom
Spain United States of America

FLANGES FOR WAVEGUIDES
Part 1: General requirements
This standard takes into account, when necessary, I EC Publication 68: Basic Environmental Testing
Procedures and shall be used in conjunction with I EC Publication 153: Hollow Metallic Waveguide, and
ISO Recommendation R 286.
When there is a difference between the general requirements and the relevant specifications, the latter
shall prevail.
SCOPE
This standard relates to the dimensions of waveguide flanges for use in electronic equipment.
It covers requirements for flanges drilled before or after mounting on waveguides. It should be noted
that for optimum electrical performance, post-drilling of the alignment holes after mounting is recom-
mended.
OBJECT
The aim of this standard is to specify for waveguide flanges the mechanical requirements necessary to
ensure compatibility and, as far as practicable, interchangeability as well as to ensure adequate electrical
performance.
