IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 is Amendment 1 to the IEC standard for the Type SC connector family. Published by IEC, it updates the fibre optic connector interface specifications for SC plugs and related receptacles, with a focus on dimensions, grade characteristics, pin gauge details, and the normative references used to define them. Engineers, manufacturers, test labs, quality managers and buyers use it to specify and verify SC connector compatibility.

What does IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 specify?

IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 specifies updates to the fibre optic connector interface document for the Type SC connector family. The amendment revises the technical reference points that define how SC connector interfaces are built and checked in practice.

The document is organized as an amendment that updates Clause 2, several figures and tables, and the bibliography. The affected items include the simplex and duplex PC plug connector interfaces, the simplex and duplex angled PC plug connector interfaces, the simplex active device receptacle interface, and the pin gauge dimensions.

What are the key requirements of IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026?

IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 mainly updates which reference series control the connector parameters and revises several dimensions and grade entries. In practice, the amendment tells users which values now come from the IEC 61755-3 series or the IEC 63267-3 series.

Clause 2 and referenced parameter series

Clause 2 adds IEC 61755-3 (all parts) and IEC 63267-3 (all parts) as normative references. These series provide the connector parameter basis for the updated interface values, so designers and inspectors must use the correct series when checking compliance.

Simplex PC plug connector interface

The amendment replaces the simplex PC plug connector figure and updates Table 3 and Table 4. Several entries now point to the IEC 61755-3 series or IEC 63267-3 series, and grade A is marked as not specified at this time. For users, that means the simplex interface is now tied more directly to the applicable fibre parameter series rather than a single earlier reference.

Pin gauge dimensions

Table 7 updates the pin gauge finish requirement in row CK to a surface roughness value stated as Ra. This matters when measuring or procuring gauges, because the surface finish of the gauge can affect how accurately it checks connector parts.

Duplex PC plug connector interface

The duplex PC plug connector figure and Tables 8 and 9 are revised in the same general direction as the simplex version. The amendment also removes one table dimension entry and deletes a note, while grade A remains not specified and grades B to D are linked to the IEC 61755-3 series, with additional grade details tied to IEC 63267-3 series where noted. In practice, duplex connectors need to be checked against the revised geometry and grading logic, not the earlier wording.

Angled PC plug connector interfaces

Figures 6 and 7 and Tables 12 and 13 update the simplex and duplex angled PC plug connector interfaces. Table 13 also adds a dimension range for row DB. This is important for product compatibility because angled interfaces have their own geometry and cannot simply be assumed to follow the straight PC dimensions.

Simplex active device receptacle interface

Table 17 revises the maximum value in row P for the simplex active device receptacle interface for PC connector plug. Users designing active devices or receptacles need to apply the updated fit dimension when checking mechanical compatibility.

What terms does IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 define?

  • Type SC connector family - The connector family covered by this standard, used for fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components.
  • Simplex - A connector interface arrangement for one fibre path or one channel.
  • Duplex - A connector interface arrangement for two fibre paths or two channels in one connector format.
  • PC plug connector interface - The plug interface defined for the PC version of the SC connector family.
  • Angled PC plug connector interface - A PC plug interface with angled geometry, defined separately from the straight version.
  • Active device receptacle interface - The receptacle interface used for connecting to an active device with a PC connector plug.
  • Grade - A classification used in the tables to distinguish interface characteristics and permitted parameter sets.

Who uses IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026?

IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 is used by connector and component manufacturers, fibre optic product designers, test laboratories, quality managers, and procurement teams. They use it to specify SC connector interfaces, check dimensional compatibility, select the correct grade, and verify incoming parts or finished products against the same interface rules.

It is also useful to system integrators and buyers in fibre optic networks who need to confirm that SC connectors, plugs, receptacles and gauges are aligned across suppliers.

What changed in IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 from the previous edition?

This amendment updates IEC 61754-4:2022 by:

  • adding IEC 61755-3 (all parts) and IEC 63267-3 (all parts) to the normative references
  • revising the simplex PC plug connector figure, dimensions and grade table
  • revising the pin gauge roughness requirement
  • revising the duplex PC plug connector figure, dimensions and grade table
  • updating the simplex and duplex angled PC plug connector interface figures and tables
  • changing one dimension in the simplex active device receptacle interface table
  • deleting IEC 61755-3-1, IEC 61755-3-2 and IEC 61755-6-1 from the bibliography

Which standards are used with IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026?

IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 uses these normative references:

  • IEC 61755-3 (all parts) - provides connector parameters for dispersion unshifted single-mode physically contacting fibres.
  • IEC 63267-3 (all parts) - provides connector parameters for physically contacting 50 µm core diameter fibres used with enhanced macro bend multimode fibres.

These references supply the parameter series that the amended interface tables now rely on.

What does the IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 document contain?

IEC 61754-4:2022/AMD1:2026 contains replacement figures and revised tables for SC connector interface geometry. It includes the simplex and duplex PC plug connector interfaces, the angled PC plug connector interfaces, the pin gauge dimensions, and the simplex active device receptacle interface.

It also contains updated grade characteristics tables that link interface grades to the IEC 61755-3 series and IEC 63267-3 series. For design and verification work, these are the parts that control fit, interchangeability, and inspection of SC connector hardware.

AMENDMENT 1
FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between
any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.
5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
services carried out by independent certification bodies.
6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
Publications.
8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is
indispensable for the correct application of this publication.
9) IEC draws attention to the possibility that the implementation of this document may involve the use of (a)
patent(s). IEC takes no position concerning the evidence, validity or applicability of any claimed patent rights in
respect thereof. As of the date of publication of this document, IEC had not received notice of (a) patent(s), which
may be required to implement this document. However, implementers are cautioned that this may not represent
