Oil of peppermint, France, Italy, United Kingdom and USA

The Standard specifies the following characteristics of the oil: appearance, colour, odour, relative density at 20/20 °C, refractive index at 20 °C, optical rotation at 20 °C, miscibility with 70 % (V/V) ethanol at 20 °C, ester value after acetylation, carbonyl value. Most of the characteristics differ in dependence from the country of origin.

Foreword
IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of
national standards institutes (IS0 member bodies). The work of developing Inter-

International Standard IS0 856 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 54,
Essentl’al G/s, and was circulated to the member bodies in February 1980.
