BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 115, Classification and composition of remelt ingots and pigs of unalloyed
aluminium, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 79, ,L&ht metals and their alloys, the Secretariat of
which is held by the Association Franc&e de Normalisation (AFNOR).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1955 and led, in 1957, to the adoption of a
Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In January 1958, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 202) was circulated to all the IS0 Member Bodies
for enquiry. It was approved by 25 Member Bodies and disapproved by 2 Member Bodies.
The Draft IS0 Recommendation was then submitted by correspondence to the IS0 Council which decided,
in July 1959, to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.
BRIEF HISTORY CONCERNING THE 2nd EDITION
Working Group ISO/TC 79/WG 2 was entrusted, in 1964, by the Secretariat of Technical
Committee ISO/TC 79, Light metals and their alloys, with the study of the revision of IS0 Recom-
mendation R 115-1959. This work led, in 1966, to the adoption of a Draft Revision.
In August 1966, this Draft Revision (No. 1065) was circulated to all the IS0 Member Bodies
for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature, by the following
Member Bodies :

The new title, Classification and composition of unalloyed aluminium ingots for remelting,
supersedes the title of the first edition : Classification and composition of remelt ingots and pigs of
unalloyed aluminium; some amendments were made to the text.
The Draft Revision of IS0 Recommendation R 115-1959 was then submitted by correspon-
dence to the IS0 Council which decided, in March 1968, to accept it.
The present edition (2nd edition) supersedes the first edition of IS0 Recommendation R 115-

1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation relates to the classification and composition of ingots for remelting of
primary and secondary unalloyed aluminium, excluding refined aluminium.
Ingots for remelting are classified according to their type (primary or secondary aluminium) and
graded according to their composition.
2. REQUIREMENTS
In all cases the type and grade should be agreed between the purchaser and the vendor and stated on
delivery.
3. CLASSIFICATION
The type is designated by the terms primary, secondary and refined aluminium which are defined
hereafter.

La Recommandation ISO/R 115, Classification et composition des lingots en aluminium non allié, a été
élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 79, Métaux légers et leurs alliages, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par
l’Association Française de Normalisation (AFNOR).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris en 1965 et aboutirent, en 1957, à l’adoption d’un Projet
Recommandation ISO.
En janvier 1958, ce Projet de Recommandation ISO (No 202) fut soumis à l’enquête de tous les Comités
Membres de 1’ISO. Il fut approuvé par 25 Comités Membres et désapprouvé par 2 Comités Membres.
Le Projet de Recommandation ISO fut alors soumis par correspondance au Conseil de 1’ISO qui décida, en
juillet 195 9, de l’accepter comme RECOMMANDATION ISO.

1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation ISO concerne la classification et la composition des lingots en alumi-
nium non allié de première fusion et de deuxième fusion, à l’exclusion de l’aluminium raffiné.
Les lingots sont classés d’après leur type (première ou deuxième fusion) et qualifiés d’après leur com-
position.
2. CONDITIONS REQUISES
Dans tous les cas, le type et la qualité font l’objet d’un accord entre l’acheteur et le vendeur et sont
mentionnés sur le bulletin de livraison.
3. CLASSIFICATION
Le type du lingot est désigné par les termes première fusion, deuxième fision et aluminium raffiné
qui sont définis ci-après.
3.1 Le terme premièrefision, désigne un métal qui provient de la réduction ou de la décomposition
d’un composé d’aluminium et qui n’a jamais subi de mise en oeuvre autre que la coulée en
lingots pour refusion ou pour transformation.
Les déchets provenant des transformations (moulage ou corroyage) effectuées par les produc-
teurs sur le métal de première fusion peuvent être incorporés dans les coulées de première
fusion, sans
