Foreword
IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of
national standards institutes (IS0 member bodies). The work of developing Inter-
national Standards is carried out through IS0 technical committees. Every member
body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been set up has the
right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental
and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to
the member bodies for approval before their acceptance as International Standards by
the IS0 Council.
International Standard IS0 486 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 36,
Cinematography, and was circulated to the member bodies in April 1981.
It has been approved by the member bodies of the following countries :

1 Scope and field of application
This International Standard specifies the cutting and perforating dimensions for 16 mm motion-picture film which is perforated 8 mm
Type R, as well as the width of motion-picture film after processing and slitting.
NOTE - Film perforated in accordance with this International Standard is also referred to as "double 8 mm motion-picture film".

L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) est une fédération mondiale

1 Ces dimensions et tolérances, sauf la dimension Al, s'appliquent au film cinématographique de sécurité tel qu'il est spécifié dans I'ISO 543, et
immédiatement après la coupe et la perforation. Si cela s'avère nécessaire, le fabricant doit indiquer les conditions atmosphériques nécessaires pour le
contrôle dimensionnel au moment de la coupe et de la perforation.
2 La dimension L représente la longueur de tout intervalle de 100 perforations consécutives.
3 Ces dimensions sont applicables au support de film à faible retrait, tel qu'il est défini dans le chapitre A
