Foreword
ISO	(the	International	Organization	for	Standardization)	and	IEC	(the	International	Electrotechnical
Commission)	form	the	specialized	system	for	worldwide	standardization.	National	bodies	that	are
members	of	ISO	or	IEC	participate	in	the	development	of	International	Standards	through	technical
committees	established	by	the	respective	organization	to	deal	with	particular	fields	of	technical
activity.	ISO	and	IEC	technical	committees	collaborate	in	fields	of	mutual	interest.	Other
international	organizations,	governmental	and	non‐governmental,	in	liaison	with	ISO	and	IEC,	also

IEEE	Standards	documents	are	developed	within	the	IEEE	Societies	and	the	Standards

This introduction is not part of IEEE Std 802.11ai-2016, IEEE Standard for Information technology—
Telecommunications and information exchange between systems—Local and metropolitan area networks—
Specific requirements—Part 11: Wireless LAN Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY)
Specifications—Amendment 1: Fast Initial Link Setup.
This amendment defines mechanisms that provide IEEE 802.11 networks with fast initial link setup methods
that do not degrade the security offered by Robust Security Network Association (RSNA) already defined in
IEEE Std 802.11.
