Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.

and test methods
1 Scope
This International Standard specifies general requirements and bench test methods for sheath-type glow-plugs. It is
applicable to those sheath-type glow-plugs conforming with ISO 6550-1, ISO 6550-2 and ISO 6550-3, used in
diesel (compression ignition) engines of vehicles equipped with 12 V or 24 V nominal voltage supply systems.

3 Test methods and requirements
3.1 General
The tests shall be carried out at an ambient temperature of (23� 5) °C, unless otherwise specified.
3.2 Gas tightness
3.2.1 Test
Mount the sample on a test device with the tightening torque specified in the relevant part of ISO 6550. Subject the

1 Domaine d'application
La présente Norme internationale spécifie les caractéristiques générales des bancs et méthodes d'essai des
bougies de préchauffage du type à fourreau. Elle est applicable aux bougies de préchauffage du type à fourreau
conformes à l’ISO 6550-1, à l’ISO 6550-2 et à l’ISO 6550-3 utilisées dans les moteurs diesels (à allumage par
compression) équipant les véhiculesmunisde systèmes d'alimentation avec une tension nominale de 12 V ou de
24 V.

3Méthodes d'essai et exigences

Sauf indication contraire, les essais doivent être réalisés à une température ambiante de (23� 5) �C.
