BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 355, Part IV, Rolling bearings - Tapered roller bearings --
Boundary dimensions - Sub-units - Inch series, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 4,
Rolling bearings, the Secretariat of which is held by the Sveriges Standardiseringskommission (SIS).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1962 and led, in 1963, to the
adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In January 1965, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 641) was circulated to all the 1SO
Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature,
by the following Member Bodies :

1. SCOPE
The sub-units of tapered roller bearings consist of outer ring (cup unit) and inner ring, roller and
cage assembly (cone unit). The boundary dimensions and tolerances of the complete bearings are

given in relevant IS0 Recommendations. In this IS0 Recommendation only the additional sub-
unit boundary dimensions are given with refercnce to the bearing bore diameter and dimension
series.

ment des roulements à rouleaux coniques - Sous-ensembles - Séries en inches, il été élaborée par le
Comité Technique lSO/TC 4, Roulements, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par la Sveriges Standiird-
iseringskommission (SIS).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris par le Comité Technique en 1962 et
aboutirent, en 1963, à l'adoption d'un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En janvier 1965, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 641) fut soumis a l'enquête de tous
les Comités Membres de l'iS0. il fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d'ordre
rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

1. OBJET
Les sous-ensembles des roulements à rouleaux coniques sont constitues d’une bague extérieure
(dite cuvette) et d’un ensemble (dit cône) consistant en une baguc interieuic. des rouleaux et une
cage. Les dimensions d’encombreirient et les tolérances des roulements complets sont indiquées dans
les Recommandations IS0 qui s’y rapportent. Dans la présente Recommandation ISO. un ne donne
que les dimensions d’encombrement additionnelles pour les sous-enseinbles, avec référence au diamè-
tre d’alésage du roulement et à la série de dimensions considérés.
