Glass in building - Structural sealant glazing - Part 1: Glass products for structural sealant glazing systems for supported and unsupported monolithic and multiple glazing

This European Standard specifies requirements for the suitability for use of supported and unsupported glass products for use in “Structural Sealant Glazing” (SSG) applications. Four schematic drawings of SSG systems are shown in Figure 1 and three section drawings of an SSG type II system are shown in Figure 2 for illustration purposes. This European Standard on glass products is considered as a supplement to the requirements specified in the corresponding standards with regard to verifying the suitability for use in SSG systems.
Only soda lime silicate glasses are taken into consideration in this European Standard.
Plastic glazing is excluded from the scope of this European Standard.
Any glass products meeting the requirements of this European Standard are suitable for use in SSG systems as defined in ETAG 002 ) “Structural sealant glazing system”.
All glass products are installed and bonded into the support under controlled environmental conditions as described in Clause 5 of EN 13022-2:2006.
When the outer seal of the insulating glass unit has a structural function and/or is exposed to UV radiation without any protection, only silicone based sealant are permitted in the construction of the unit.

Diese Europäische Norm legt die Anforderungen an die Gebrauchstauglichkeit von Glasprodukten mit und
ohne Abtragung des Eigengewichtes für die Anwendung in SSG-Systemen fest. Bild 1 enthält vier
schematische Darstellungen von SSG-Verglasungen. Bild 2 zeigt drei Schnittzeichnungen eines SSG-Systems
des Typ II zur Erläuterung. Diese Europäische Norm für Glasprodukte stellt eine Ergänzung zu den
in den entsprechenden Normen festgelegten Anforderungen in Bezug auf den Nachweis der Eignung für
SSG-Systeme dar.
In dieser Europäischen Norm werden nur Verglasungen aus Kalk-Natronsilicatglas behandelt.
Kunststoff-Verglasungen sind nicht Gegenstand dieser Europäischen Norm.
Glasprodukte, die die Anforderungen dieser Europäischen Norm erfüllen, sind für den Einsatz in
SSG-Systemen nach ETAG 002 1) "Structural Sealant Glazing Systems " SSGS" geeignet.
Alle Glasprodukte werden unter kontrollierten Umgebungsbedingungen in die Unterkonstruktion eingebaut
und mit dieser verbunden, wie in EN 13022-2:2006, Abschnitt 5 beschrieben.
Wenn die äußere Dichtung des Isolierglases eine tragende Funktion hat und/oder ungeschützt der UV-Strahlung
ausgesetzt ist, dürfen nur Dichtungen auf Silikon-Basis beim Einbau der Verglasung verwendet
werden.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les exigences relatives a l'aptitude a l'emploi des produits verriers calés et non calés destinés a etre utilisés suivant la technique du « Vitrage Extérieur Collé » (VEC). Quatre dessins schématiques de VEC sont donnés dans la Figure 1 et six cas de systeme VEC de type I et II sont donnés dans le Figure 2 « Domaine d’application » a titre informatif.
Seuls les verres de silicate sodo-calcique sont pris en considération dans cette Norme européenne.
Le vitrage en plastique est exclu du domaine d'application de la présente norme.
Les produits verriers conformes aux exigences de la présente norme sont aptes a etre utilisés dans des systemes de vitrages extérieurs collés tels que définis dans le Guide d'Agrément Technique Européen 002 ) « Systemes de vitrages extérieurs collés ».
Tous les produits verriers sont installés et collés sur le support sous les conditions de contrôle environnemental tels que définies a l'Article 5 de la EN 13022-2 : 2006.
Quand le scellement extérieur du vitrage isolant a une fonction structurelle et/ou est exposé au rayonnement UV sans aucune protection, seul les mastics a base de silicone sont permis dans l'assemblage de ce vitrage

EN 13022-1:2006 (E) 4 Foreword This European Standard (EN 13022-1:2006) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 129 “Glass in building”, the secretariat of which is held by IBN/BIN. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by November 2006, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by November 2006. This Part of the standard is one of a series of interrelated standards dealing with:  glass products for structural sealant glazing systems;  installation of glass products in a structural manner on building façades;  UV-resistant and structural sealant for use in structural sealant glazing. EN 13022-1:2006 (E) 8 SITUATION 1 The SSG seal is applied on face 2 of the insulating glass unit. The outer IGU sealant has no structural function and therefore only contributes to the resistance of the unit against the ingress of water (vapour and liquid) and air. Depending on the type and construction of the IGU sealant any leakage of gas from the unit will be minimised. The SSG seal need to have good adhesion to the glass and steel surfaces to withstand the mechanical stresses that results from the exposure of the IGU to the climatic elements and in particular the effects of solar radiation. SITUATION 2 The SSG seal is applied on face 4 of the insulating glass unit. The outer IGU sealant has a structural function as well as having to maintain the integrity and performance of the IGU. Any stress or loads applied to the outer glass will be transferred to the IGU sealant. SITUATION 3 The SSG seal is applied on face 2 of the laminated or monolithic glass unit. EN 13022-1:2006 (E) 11 3.3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this European Standard, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.3.1 structural sealant glazing (SSG) structural sealant glazing (SSG) is an assembly in which glass products are fixed to the structural seal frame by means of a sealant that has been shown to be capable of withstanding the load actions applied to the glass products of the structural seal frame 3.3.2 anchorage (see (1) in Figure 3) anchorage of the structural seal support frame on the framework 3.3.3 backer rod (see (2) in Figure 3) pre-formed continuous strip that limits the section and height of a fillet of weather sealant 3.3.4 hermetic seal bite (see (3) in Figure 3) dimension of the second barrier of the hermetic seal measured parallel to the glass unit at the panel level 3.3.5 façade framework (see (4) in Figure 3) members to which the structural seal support frame is connected and which transmits the loads to the building 3.3.6 finishing material (see (5) in Figure 3 and (4) in Figure 2) elastomeric sealant extruded into the joint of sufficient cross section which when cured constitutes a barrier to air and water, or a pre-extruded gasket with a fin of sufficient cross-section 3.3.7 outer seal (see (6b) in Figure 3 and (3) in Figure 2) ensures a hermetic seal around the edge of an insulating unit. It also resists the ingress of water or vapour and light whilst remaining compliant with displacements caused by wind or other loads. NOTE The hermetic seal is called “structural” when it also has the supplementary function of adequately transmitting to the seal support frame the forces applied to the glass 3.3.8 inner seal (see (2) in Figure 2) sealant which when applied is in contact with the cavity of the insulating glass unit NOTE In the case of the single seal, the inner seal is the same as the outer seal. 3.3.9 glass unit (see (7) in Figure 3) glass element consisting of: a single pane (monolithic or laminated) (see also Figure 2); an insulating glass unit specified for use in SSG.
