Rubber and plastic machines - Calenders - Safety requirements

This European standard specifies safety requirements relating to the design and construction of multi-roll calenders intended for the processing of rubber or plastics. This standard concerns the calender alone. including all components fixed to its frame. Annex A shows examples of various types of calenders and annex B shows examples of calendering processes. The following machines are excluded:
- two-roll calenders forming an integral unit with an extruder (roller head); - two or three-roll polishing , laminating or embossing units (which are not calenders) installed downstream of extruders in film processing lines. This standard deals with the significant hazards listed in clause 4. The following hazards are not dealt with: - hazards generated by the materials being processed (see informative annex C);
- hazards generated by the processing of explosive materials, or materials which give rise to an explosive atmosphere; - fire hazards due to ignition of flammable materials by contact with hot parts of the calender (e.g. in case of oil leakage); - hazards due to electromagnetic, laser or ionising radiation; - hazards generated if the calender is installed in an explosive atmosphere. This standard applies to machinery manufactured after the date of approval of this standard by CEN.

Gummi- und Kunststoffmaschinen - Kalander -Sicherheitsanforderungen

Diese Europäische Norm legt die sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen für Konzipierung und Bau von Mehrwalzenkalandern zur Verarbeitung von Gummi und Kunststoffen fest. Diese Norm betrifft den Kalander selbst sowie die auf seinem Ständer befestigten Vor-richtungen. Anhang A zeigt Beispiele verschiedener Kalanderbauarten und Anhang B Beispiele für Kalandrierverfahren. Nicht behandelt werden folgende Maschinen: - Zweiwalzenkalander, die mit einem Extruder eine Einheit bilden (roller head), - Zwei- oder Dreiwalzen-Glättmaschinen und/oder Prägemaschinen (die keine Kalander sind), die Extrudern in Folienverarbeitungsanlagen nachgeschaltet sind. Diese Norm behandelt die in Abschnitt 4 aufgelisteten signifikanten Gefährdungen. Nicht behandelt werden folgende Gefährdungen: - Gefährdungen, die durch die zu verarbeitenden Materialien entstehen (siehe informativen Anhang C)
- Gefährdungen, die bei der Verarbeitung von explosionsfähigen Materialien oder von Materialien, die eine explosible Atmosphäre erzeugen, entstehen - Brandgefahr durch Entzündung brennbarer Materialien durch Kontakt mit heißen Teilen des Kalanders (z. B. im Fall von Öl-Leckage)Gefährdungen durch elektromagnetische Strahlung, Laserstrahlung oder ionisierende Strahlung - Gefährdungen, falls der Kalander in explosiblen Atmosphären installiert wird. Diese Norm gilt für Maschinen, die nach dem Annahmedatum der Norm durch CEN hergestellt worden sind.

Machines pour le caoutchouc et les matieres plastiques -Calandres - Prescriptions de sécurité

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les prescriptions de sécurité relatives a la conception et a la construction des calandres a plusieurs cylindres, destinées au travail du caoutchouc ou des matieres plastiques. La présente norme concerne la calandre seule, ainsi que les éléments fixés sur son bâti. L'annexe A montre des exemples de différents types de calandres et l'annexe B montre des exemples de procédés de calandrage. Les machines suivantes sont exclues: - calandres a deux cylindres formant une unité avec une extrudeuse (roller-head); - machines a deux ou a trois cylindres utilisées pour le polissage, le doublage ou le grainage (qui ne sont pas des calandres), installées en aval d'une extrudeuse dans les lignes de fabrication de feuilles. La présente norme traite des phénomenes dangereux significatifs énumérés dans l'article 4. Les phénomenes dangereux suivants ne sont pas traités: - phénomenes dangereux engendrés par les matériaux travaillés (voir annexe informative C); - phénomenes dangereux engendrés par le travail de produits explosifs ou de produits générant une atmosphere explosive; - phénomenes dangereux d'incendie dus a l'inflammation de matériaux combustibles au contact de parties chaudes de la calandre (par exemple en cas de fuite d'huile); - phénomenes dangereux liés aux rayonnements électromagnétiques, laser ou ionisants; - phénomenes dangereux liés a l'installation de la calandre dans une atmosphere explosive.
La présente norme s'applique aux machines fabriquées apres la date de publication par le CEN.

This document concerns the calender alone, including the following integrated components: cutting device, stock guides and feeding device, secondary roller.
Annex C shows examples of various types of calenders and Annex D shows examples of calendaring processes.
This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events relevant to the design and construction of calenders, when the machines are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer during all the phases of the life of the machine as described in EN ISO 12100:2010, 5.4 (see Annex B).
This document does not deal with:
-   hazards generated by the processing of explosive materials, or materials which give rise to an explosive atmosphere;
-   hazards due to laser or ionizing radiation;
-   hazards generated if the calender is installed in an explosive atmosphere.

This European Standard applies to the tyre curing presses as defined in 3.36 having the following configuration.
-  Crossing flow tyre curing presses, with two cavities with:
   -  common curing cycle and common safeguarding; or
   -  independent curing cycles and common safeguarding; or
   -  independent curing cycles and independent safeguarding.
-  Tyre curing presses with one cavity.
-  Tyre curing presses with automatic rear feeding and discharge.
The requirements and/or safety measures specified in this European Standard apply to tyre curing presses for passenger vehicle tyres and truck tyres.
Only automatic tyre loading into the mould and automatic tyre unloading from the mould are covered by this European Standard.
Feeding system and discharge system are not covered by this European Standard.
Hazard associated with falling of parts of the container or mould are not covered by this European Standard.
Safety requirements relating to the design of ancillary equipment which is not an integral part of the tyre curing press, e.g. conveying equipment are not covered in this European Standard.
Safety requirements relating the design of exhaust systems are not covered in this European Standard.
This European Standard covers the significant hazards listed in Clause 4.
NOTE   This European Standard is not intended to support the PED [1]. For pressure hazards, see informative Annex A.
