Thermal insulation products for buildings - Factory made wood wool (WW) products - Specification
This European Standard specifies the requirements for factory made products of wood wool, with or without facings, which are used for the thermal insulation of buildings.
This European Standard also specifies the requirements for the factory made composite products, made from wood wool in combination with other insulation materials. The products are manufactured in the form of boards or slabs.
This European Standard describes product characteristics and includes procedures for testing, evaluation of conformity, marking and labelling.
Products covered by this European Standard are also used in prefabricated thermal insulation systems and composite panels; the performance of systems incorporating these products is not covered.
This European Standard does not specify the required level of a given property to be achieved by a product to demonstrate fitness for purpose in a particular application. The levels/classes required for a given application are to be found in regulations or non conflicting standards.
Products with a declared thermal resistance lower than 0,15 m2K/W or a declared thermal conductivity greater than 0,1 W/(mK) at 10 °C are not covered by this European Standard.
This European Standard does not cover in situ insulation products and products intended to be used for the insulation of building equipment and industrial installations.
This European Standard does not cover the following acoustical aspects: direct airborne sound insulation and impact noise transmission.

Diese Europäische Norm legt die Anforderungen für werkmäßig hergestellte Produkte aus Holzwolle mit oder
ohne Kaschierung fest, die für die Wärmedämmung von Gebäuden benutzt werden.
Diese Europäische Norm beschreibt die Stoffeigenschaften und enthält die Prüfverfahren und Festlegungen
für die Konformitätsbewertung, die Kennzeichnung und die Etikettierung.
Diese Europäische Norm beschreibt auch die Anforderungen für werkseitig erzeugte Mehrschicht-Produkte,
gefertigt aus Holzwolle in Verbindung mit einem anderen Dämmmaterial. Die Produkte werden in Form von
Platten produziert.
In dieser Europäischen Norm beschriebene Produkte werden auch in vorgefertigten Wärmedämmsystemen
und Mehrschicht-Verbundplatten angewendet; die Eigenschaften von Systemen, in die diese Produkte
integriert sind, werden nicht behandelt.
Diese Europäische Norm legt keine Anforderungsniveaus für eine vorgegebene Eigenschaft fest, die ein
Produkt erreichen muss, um für einen bestimmten Anwendungsfall tauglich zu sein. Für bestimmte
Anwendungen benötigte Anforderungen können Regelwerken oder übereinstimmenden Normen entnommen
werden.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für Produkte, deren Nennwert des Wärmedurchlasswiderstandes niedriger
ist als 0,15 m2 ⋅ K/W oder deren Nennwert der Wärmeleitfähigkeit größer ist als 0,1 W/(m ⋅ K) bei 10 °C
Mitteltemperatur.

La présente norme décrit les caractéristiques de ces produits et comporte des modes opératoires d’essai, d’évaluation de conformité, de marquage et d’étiquetage.
La présente Norme européenne spécifie les exigences auxquelles doivent satisfaire les produits composites manufacturés à base de laine de bois en combinaison avec d’autres matériaux isolants.
Les produits couverts par la présente Norme européenne sont également utilisés dans les systèmes d’isolation thermique préfabriqués et les panneaux composites ; les performances des systèmes incorporant ces produits ne sont pas traitées.

EN 13168:2008 (E) 4 Foreword This document (EN 13168:2008) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 88 “Thermal insulating materials and products”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 2009, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by May 2009. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. ITT Initial Type Test RTF Reaction To Fire FPC Factory Production Control 4 Requirements 4.1 General Product properties shall be assessed in accordance with Clause 5. To comply with this standard, products shall meet the requirements of 4.2, and the requirements of 4.3 as appropriate. NOTE Information on additional properties is given in Annex D.

EN 13168:2008 (E) 11 All thermal insulating products used for the manufacture of WW-C-slabs shall comply with the relevant European Product Standards. 4.2 For all applications 4.2.1 Thermal resistance and thermal conductivity Thermal resistance and thermal conductivity shall be based upon measurements carried out in accordance with EN 12667 or EN 12939 for thick products. The thermal resistance and thermal conductivity shall be determined in accordance with Annex A and declared by the manufacturer according to the following: the reference mean temperature shall be 10 °C; the measured values shall be expressed with three significant figures; for products of uniform thickness, the thermal resistance, RD, shall always be declared. The thermal conductivity, λD, shall be declared where possible. Where appropriate, for products of non-uniform thickness (e.g. for sloped and tapered products) only the thermal conductivity, λD, shall be declared. the declared thermal resistance, RD, and thermal conductivity, λD, shall be given as limit values representing at least 90 % of the production, determined with a confidence level of 90 %; the value of thermal conductivity λ90/90, shall be rounded upwards to the nearest 0,001 W/(m⋅K) and declared as λD in levels with steps of 0,001 W/(m⋅K); the declared thermal resistance, RD, shall be calculated from the nominal thickness dN, and the corresponding thermal conductivity λ90/90. the value of the thermal resistance, R90/90, when calculated from the nominal thickness, dN, and the corresponding declared thermal conductivity, λ90/90, shall be rounded downwards to the nearest 0,05 m2⋅K/W, and declared as RD in levels with steps of 0,05 m2⋅K/W; the value of R90/90, for those products for which only the thermal resistance is measured directly, shall be rounded downwards to the nearest 0,05 m2⋅K/W and declared as RD in levels with steps of 0,05 m2⋅K/W. 4.2.2 Length and width Length, l, and width, b, shall be determined in accordance with EN 822. 4.2.3 Thickness Thickness, d, shall be determined in accordance with EN 823. No test result shall deviate from the nominal thickness, dN, by more than the tolerances given in Table 2 for the declared class. EN 13168:2008 (E) 13 4.2.5 Flatness The property is only relevant for faced products. Flatness, Smax, shall be determined in accordance with EN 825. 4.2.6 Compressive stress or compressive strength Compression stress at 10 % deformation, σ10, or the compressive strength, σm, shall be determined in accordance with EN 826. No test result for either the compressive stress or the compressive strength, which ever is the smaller, shall be less than the value, given in Table 5 for the declared level. For handling purposes, all products shall have as a minimum level CS(10/Y)20 4.2.7 Apparent density and mass per unit area The apparent density of wood wool slabs, a, shall be determined in accordance with EN 1602. No test result shall differ from the declared value by more than ± 10 %. The mass per unit area of composite wood wool slabs shall be determined from measurements of mass and shall be determined in accordance with EN 1602. EN 13168:2008 (E) 14 4.2.8 Compatibility with other materials (chloride content) The compatibility of wood wool slabs and the wood wool layers of composite wood wool slabs with other building materials is assessed through measurements of chloride content, determined in accordance with C.1. 4.2.9 Dimensional stability under specified temperature and humidity conditions Dimensional stability under specified temperature and humidity conditions of wood wool slabs shall be determined in accordance with EN 1604. The test shall be carried out after storage for 48 h at (70 ± 2) °C and (90 ± 5) % relative humidity. The relative change in thickness, ∆εd, shall not exceed 3,0 %. The relative changes in length, ∆εl, and width, ∆εb, shall not exceed 0,5 %. 4.2.10 Tensile strength perpendicular to faces Tensile strength perpendicular to faces, σmt, shall be determined in accordance with EN 1607. For handling purposes, all WW-C products shall have as a minimum level TR5. The tensile strength perpendicular to faces of wood wool slabs shall not be tested. 4.2.11 Reaction to fire Reaction to fire classification (Euroclasses) shall be determined in accordance with EN 13501-1. SIST EN 13168:2009
EN 13168:2008 (E) 15 4.2.12 Durability characteristics 4.2.12.1 General The appropriate durability characteristics have been considered and are covered in 4.2.12.2, 4.2.12.3 and 4.2.12.4. 4.2.12.2 Durability of reaction to fire against ageing/ degradation The reaction to fire performance of factory made products of wood wool does not change with time. 4.2.12.3 Durability of thermal resistance and thermal conductivity against ageing/ degradation The thermal conductivity of factory made products of wood wool does not change with time. This is covered by 4.2.1 thermal conductivity, 4.2.2 Length and width and 4.2.9 dimensional stability or 4.3.2 dimensional stability. 4.2.12.4 Durability of compressive strength against ageing/degradation The durability of compressive strength is covered by 4.3.7 Compressive creep. 4.3 For specific applications 4.3.1 General If there is no requirement for a property described in 4.3 for a product in use, then the property does not need to be determined and declared by the manufacturer. 4.3.2 Dimensional stability under specific load and temperature conditions Dimensional stability under specific load and temperature conditions shall be determined in accordance with EN 1605. The test shall be carried out for (48 ± 1) h at (23 ± 5) °C under loads of 20 kPa, 40 kPa and 80 kPa. The relative change in thickness, ∆εd, shall not exceed 2 %. 4.3.3 Point load Point load at 2 mm deformation shall be determined in accordance with EN 12430 and declared in levels with steps of 50 N. No test result shall be less than the declared level. 4.3.4 Bending strength The bending strength, σb, shall be determined in accordance with EN 12089. The calculation of bending strength shall take account the requirements of D.1. No test result shall be less than the declared level. 4.3.5 Water vapour transmission Water vapour transmission properties of wood wool products including facings and coatings shall be determined in accordance with EN 12086 and declared as the water vapour diffusion resistance factor, µ, for homogeneous products and as the water vapour resistance, Z, for faced or non-homogeneous products. No test result of µ shall be greater than the declared value and no test result of Z shall be less than the declared value.
