Roles and call control capabilities

Annex A starts with role selection for an originating CC entity, a terminating CC entity and a transit CC entity. At least one of these roles is required, which tells a buyer or tester what kind of network position the implementation is designed for.

The major capabilities section then walks through call establishment, call proceeding, call acceptance, completion of call establishment, call status change reporting and call clearing. It also covers bearer co-ordination, Call Description handling, interworking with networks that do not separate call and bearer control, and transport mechanisms such as CO-BI, CL-BI and a reliable transport mechanism. Practically, this is the part that shows which call flows and interworking cases the implementation can handle.

APDUs, parameters and timers

Annex A also records which Application Protocol Data Units (APDUs) are transmitted and received, and which APDU parameters are supported. It names parameters related to call description and bearer information, so the completed PICS shows whether the implementation can carry the data items needed for real call setup and release exchanges.

The timer section identifies named timers used by the protocol. For an implementer or test lab, that is the checklist for timeout behavior during conformance testing and fault analysis.

Annex B adds requirements for the transport mechanisms and some Generic Functional Protocol items needed by EN 302 092-1.
