Nuclear energy - Determination of nitrogen content in UO2, (U,Gd)O2 and (U,Pu)O2 sintered pellets - Inert gas extraction and conductivity detection method (ISO 12799:2015)

ISO 12799:2015 describes a procedure for measuring the nitrogen content of UO2, (U,Gd)O2, and (U,Pu)O2 pellets. Nitrogen in nuclear fuel may be present either as elemental nitrogen or chemically combined in the form of nitrogenous compounds. The technique described herein serves to determine the total content of nitrogen excluding those compounds whose decomposition temperature is above 2 200 °C (most notably Pu and U nitrides).

Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Messung des Stickstoffgehalts von UO2, (U,Gd)O2 und (U,Pu)O2 Pellets. Stickstoff kann in Kernbrennstoff entweder als elementarer Stickstoff oder als chemische Verbindung gebunden in der Form von stickstoffhaltigen Verbindungen vorhanden sein. Die hier beschriebene Technik dient zur Bestimmung des Gesamtgehalts an Stickstoff, d. h. ohne die Verbindungen, die eine Zersetzungstemperatur von über 2 200 °C haben (allen voran Pu- und U Nitride).

Standard ISO 12799:2015 opisuje postopek za merjenje vsebnosti dušika v peletih UO2, (U,Gd)O2 in (U,Pu)O2. Dušik je v jedrskem gorivu lahko prisoten v obliki elementa ali v kemijskih dušikovih spojinah. Tehnika, opisana v tem dokumentu, se uporablja za določanje skupne vsebnosti dušika brez tistih spojin, ki se razgradijo pri temperaturi nad 2200 °C (predvsem Pu- in U-nitridi).

The text of ISO 12799:2015 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 85 "Nuclear energy,

nuclear technologies, and radiological protection” of the International Organization for Standardization

(ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO 12799:2019 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 430 “Nuclear

energy, nuclear technologies, and radiological protection” the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.

This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an

identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by December 2019, and conflicting national standards

shall be withdrawn at the latest by December 2019.

Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
