This part of IEC 60255-22 is based on IEC 61000-4-4, referring to that publication where applicable, and specifies the general requirements for electrical fast transient immunity tests for measuring relays and protection equipment for power system protection, including the control, monitoring and process interface equipment used with these systems. The objective of the tests is to confirm that the equipment under test will operate correctly when energized and subjected to repetitive fast transients (bursts) such as those originating from interrupting of inductive loads, relay contact bounce, etc. The requirements specified in this standard are applicable to measuring relays and protection equipment in a new condition and all tests specified are type tests only. The object of this standard is to state: definitions of terms used; - test severity level; - test equipment; - test set-up; - test procedures; - criteria for acceptance; - test report requirements.

La CEI 60255-22-4:2008 spécifie les exigences générales pour les essais d'immunité aux transitoires électriques rapides des relais de mesure et dispositifs de protection, y compris les équipements de contrôle, de supervision et d'interface avec le processus utilisés avec ces systèmes. Est basée sur la CEI 61000-4-4. Le but de ces essais est d'obtenir la confirmation que l'équipement à l'essai opère correctement lorsqu'il est alimenté et soumis aux perturbations transitoires électriques rapides et répétitives telles que celles générées par l'interruption de charges inductives, rebondissements de contacts de relais, etc. La modification principale par rapport à l'édition précédente est l'amélioration du niveau de sévérité de l'essai en ce qui concerne la vitesse de répétition.

The text of document 95/228/FDIS, future edition 3 of IEC 60255-22-4, prepared by IEC TC 95,
Measuring relays and protection equipment, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was
approved by CENELEC as EN 60255-22-4 on 2008-05-01.
This European Standard supersedes EN 60255-22-4:2002.
The main change with respect to EN 60255-22-4:2002 is:
– the improvement of the test severity level regarding the repetition rate.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2009-02-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2011-05-01
Annex ZA has been added by CENELEC.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
