Size designation of clothes - Tights

ISO 5971:2017 establishes a system for designating the sizes of tights.
The system is based on three criteria:
- identification of dimensions;
- description of the methods of determining size designations from survey data; and
- indication of size designations for garment labelling.
Examples of size designations are given in Annex B.

— informative Annex A added on rationale related to survey data on body dimensions;
— informative Annex B added including updated examples of tight size designation.

1 Scope
This document establishes a system for designating the sizes of tights.
The system is based on three criteria:
— identification of dimensions;
— description of the methods of determining size designations from survey data; and
— indication of size designations for garment labelling.

4 Désignation des tailles
4.1 Mesures de contrôle des collants
Les mesures de contrôle des collants sont généralement comme suit:
1) la stature comme mesure principale et le tour de bassin et/ou la masse corporelle comme mesure
secondaire;
2) le tour de bassin comme mesure principale et la stature comme mesure secondaire.
NOTE Il existe une étroite corrélation entre le tour de bassin et la masse corporelle (voir l’Annexe A).

Les mesures du corps sont déterminées conformément à l’ISO 8559-1 et les mesures de contrôle
conformément à l’ISO 8559-2.
4.2 Données d’enquêtes
La désignation des tailles est obtenue à partir d’une grille (voir l’Annexe B) ayant comme coordonnées
la stature et le tour de bassin, ou la stature et la masse corporelle.
Chaque cellule représente la fraction de la population à laquelle correspondent les deux mensurations,
soit la stature et le tour de bassin, soit la stature et la masse corporelle. Une cellule blanche vide
signifie qu’elle ne correspond à personne ou seulement à un très faible pourcentage de personnes (voir
