This document provides requirements and recommendations for the manufacturing of mobile
simultaneous interpreting booths. The main features of mobile booths that distinguish them from
permanent simultaneous interpreting booths are that they can be dismantled, moved and set up in a
conference room not equipped with permanent booths. This document also ensures the usability and
accessibility of booths for all interpreters, including those with special needs.
Requirements for the use and siting of mobile booths are described in Annex A.
In conjunction with either ISO 2603 or this document, ISO 20108 and ISO 20109 provide the relevant
requirements both for the quality and transmission of sound and image provided to interpreters and
for the equipment needed in the booths.

Ta dokument vsebuje zahteve in priporočila za izdelavo premičnih kabin za simultano tolmačenje. Glavne funkcije premičnih kabin, po katerih se ločijo od
vgrajenih kabin za simultano tolmačenje, so, da jih je mogoče razstaviti, preseliti in postaviti v konferenčno dvorano, ki ni opremljena z vgrajenimi kabinami. Ta dokument zagotavlja tudi uporabnost in dostopnost kabin za tolmače, vključno s tistimi s posebnimi potrebami.
Zahteve za uporabo in lokacijo premičnih kabin so opisane v dodatku A.

Introduction
A number of basic aspects are to be considered when designing and/or using mobile booths. As
interpreting is an activity that requires high concentration, stress factors have to be avoided and
the working environment accordingly has to meet the highest ergonomic standards and provide an
environment that enables interpreters to carry out their work properly.
The design of a mobile booth is governed by four overall principles:
a) sound insulation, both from the noise transmitted from the booth’s environment to a booth and
vice versa, and from noise passing from one booth to another;
b) good visual communication between the interpreters and the participants in the event;
c) adequate working conditions for the interpreters, whose booths are their workplace, such as to
enable them to sustain the intense effort of concentration required throughout the day’s work;
d) the booth must be lightweight yet sturdy, easy to handle and assemble, and designed in such a way
that it can also be easily dismantled and maintained.

4 General requirements
Mobile booths are designed for temporary use in a variety of locations. They shall provide at least the
required sound insulation and sound absorption (see Clause 9). Booths shall be designed in such a way
that they can be dismantled, maintained and re-used. Furthermore, the initial performance of the sound
insulation shall be guaranteed for use at least 100 times, and handling, assembling and dismantling
shall not incur additional replacement costs.
Materials used shall be easy to maintain, non-toxic, odourless, anti-static, fire-retardant or non-
flammable according to ISO 1182 and ISO 11925-3, and cause no irritation to eyes, skin or respiratory
tract. They shall neither attract nor collect dust.
The colour scheme in the booth shall be appropriate for the restricted working space (soft, light
colours, subtle pastel shades). Matte finishes shall be used for all surfaces in the booth in order to avoid
reflections.

while at the same time allowing them to enter and leave the booth without disturbing one another.

Introduction
Plusieurs aspects fondamentaux doivent être pris en considération lors de la conception et/ou de
l’utilisation de cabines transportables. Dans la mesure où l’interprétation constitue une activité qui exige
une grande concentration, les facteurs de stress doivent être évités; en conséquence, l’environnement
de travail doit répondre aux exigences ergonomiques les plus strictes afin de permettre aux interprètes
de s’acquitter de leur tâche dans des conditions optimales.
Quatre grands principes régissent la conception de cabines transportables:
a) l’isolation acoustique par rapport au bruit provenant de l’extérieur de la cabine et vice-versa ainsi
qu’entre les cabines elles-mêmes.
b) une bonne communication visuelle entre les interprètes et les participants à la conférence;
c) des conditions de travail adéquates pour les interprètes, dont la cabine est le lieu de travail, afin
qu’ils soient en mesure de fournir l’effort de concentration intense que requiert l’exercice de leur
profession tout au long de la journée.
d) la cabine doit être légère mais robuste, facile à manipuler et à assembler, et conçue de manière à
pouvoir être facilement démontée et entretenue.

Exigences
1 Domaine d’application
Ce document définit les exigences et recommandations concernant la fabrication de cabines
d’interprétation simultanée transportables. La caractéristique qui distingue principalement les
cabines transportables des cabines d’interprétation simultanée permanentes est leur capacité à être
démontées, transportées et installées dans une salle de conférence qui n’est pas équipée de cabines
permanentes. Ce document garantit également la facilité d’utilisation et l’accessibilité des cabines pour
tout interprète, y compris ceux qui ont des besoins spécifiques.
Les exigences en matière d’utilisation et d’installation des cabines transportables sont décrites à
l’Annexe A.
En combinaison avec l’ISO 2603 ou le présent document, l’ISO 20108 et l’ISO 20109 définissent les
exigences relatives tant à la qualité et à la transmission du son et de l’image fournis aux interprètes
qu’au matériel requis dans les cabines.

4 Exigences générales
Les cabines transportables sont destinées à une utilisation temporaire dans des endroits divers. Elles
doivent présenter les degrés d’isolation et d’absorption sonores requis (voir l’Article 9). Les cabines
doivent être conçues de manière à pouvoir être démontées, entretenues et réutilisées. De plus, leur
performance initiale en matière d’insonorisation doit être garantie pour au moins 100 utilisations; ni
leur manutention, ni leur montage, ni leur démontage ne doivent occasionner de coûts de remplacement
supplémentaires.
Les matériaux mis en œuvre doivent être faciles à entretenir, non-toxiques, sans odeur, antistatiques,
ignifuges ou non-inflammables, conformément aux Normes ISO 1182 et ISO 11925-3, et ne doivent pas
causer d’irritation des yeux, de la peau ou de l’appareil respiratoire. Ils ne doivent pas non plus attirer
ou accumuler la poussière.
La palette de couleurs utilisée en cabine doit être adaptée au caractère exigu de l’espace de travail (tons
doux, couleurs claires, teintes pastel subtiles). Un fini mat doit être appliqué à toutes les surfaces afin
d’éviter les reflets.

5 Taille, poids et manipulation
5.1 Taille des cabines
Voir Figures 1 et 2.
Chaque cabine doit pouvoir accueillir le nombre d’interprètes nécessaire, confortablement assis côte à
côte, tout en leur laissant la possibilité d’entrer et sortir sans se gêner mutuellement. L’espace doit être
suffisant pour assurer une ventilation et un réglage de température corrects.
Les dimensions intérieures minimales suivantes doivent s’appliquer:
a) largeur:
— pour un maximum de deux interprètes 1,60 m
— pour un maximum de trois interprètes 2,40 m
— pour un maximum de quatre interprètes 3,20 m
b) profondeur: 1,60 m
c) hauteur: 2,00 m
Les cabines doivent être modulaires et permettre l’extension d’une cabine de 1,60 m de large à une de
2,40 m ou 3,20 m par l’ajout de panneaux.
