This document establishes the performance requirements for insole components for footwear in order to assess the suitability for the end use and/or fitness for purpose. It also establishes the test methods to be used to evaluate the compliance with the requirements.
This document applies to insoles for all kinds of footwear as defined in Clause 4.
This document can be used as a reference by the manufacturer and the supplier.

FprCEN ISO/TS 20955 (ISO/TS 20955:2024) defines performance requirements and test methods for insoles used in all kinds of footwear. Its primary purpose is to assess the fitness for purpose of insole components - ensuring suitability for the intended end use - and to provide a common reference for manufacturers and suppliers involved in insole specification, testing and quality control.

  • Class A: slight exposure (infant shoes, slippers, indoor, fashion)

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 20 March 2026 for provisional application.

The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to
submit their comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.

CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS
available promptly at national level in an appropriate form. It is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in
parallel to the CEN/TS) until the final decision about the possible conversion of the CEN/TS into an EN is reached.
