CEN/TC 53/WG 4 - Mobile access towers

This document gives rules and guidelines for the preparation of instruction manuals for mobile access and working towers in accordance with EN 1004-1, Mobile access and working towers made of prefabricated elements - Part 1: Materials, dimensions, design loads, safety and performance requirements.
This document is intended for all parties involved in the preparation of instructions for use, for example: suppliers, technical writers, technical illustrators, translators or other people engaged in the work of conceiving and drafting such instructions for use.

This document applies to the design of mobile access and working towers made of prefabricated elements with dimensions which are fixed by the design and with a height up to 12 m (indoors) and up to 8 m (outdoors). This document applies to mobile access and working towers used as temporary work equipment.
This document:
-   gives guidelines for the choice of the main dimensions and stabilizing methods,
-   gives safety and performance requirements, and
-   gives information on complete towers.
This product standard does not apply to scaffolds according to EN 12810-1 and EN 12811-1.

This document specifies the requirements for dimensions, safety and performance of mobile working platforms made of prefabricated elements used as low height and low load capacity temporary work equipment.
This document applies to the design of mobile working platforms:
− with wheels;
− for assembly by one person;
− for use by one or more persons;
− with no more than one platform level;
− made of prefabricated elements with dimensions which are fixed by the design;
− with a platform height limited to 2,0 m;
− with minimum platform dimensions of 0,5 m x 1,0 m and maximum
− platform dimensions of 2,0 m x 3,5 m;
− used indoors or outdoors.
This document does not apply to:
− scaffolds according to EN 12810-1 and EN 12811-1;
− mobile access towers according to EN 1004-1;
− mobile ladders with platform according to EN 131-7;
− ladders with separate platform according to EN 131-8;
− where different load assumptions and verification methods are applied.

This European standard gives rules and guidelines for the preparation of instructions manuals for mobile access and working towers in accordance with HD 1004:1992. A mobile access tower is not intended as a stairtower to provide access to other structures.

This document applies to the design of mobile access and working towers made of prefabricated elements with a height from 2,5 m to 12,0 m (indoors) and from 2,5 m to 8,0 m (outdoors).
This document:
-   gives guidelines for the choice of the main dimensions and stabilizing methods;
-   gives safety and performance requirements; and
-   gives some information on complete towers.
NOTE   In this document "indoors" means that the towers is not be exposed to wind, and "outdoors" means that the towers may be exposed to wind.
