CEN/TC 58/WG 10 - Common requirements and test methods for standards for gas controls
This European Standard deals with the safety, construction and performance requirements of safety, control or regulating devices and sub-assemblies or fittings (hereafter referred to as controls) for burners and gas burning appliances using fuel gases of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd families and to their testing. This European Standard is to be used in conjunction with the specific control standard. When no applicable control standard exists, the control can be tested according to this standard and further tests by agreement between the manufacturer and test agency taking into account the intended use. Controls to which this European Standard applies include the following: - Automatic shut-off valves; - Burner controls; - Flame supervision devices; - Gas/air ratio controls; - Governors; - Manuel taps; - Mechanical thermostats; - Multifunctional controls; - Pressure sensing devices; - Valve proving systems; - Zero governors; - etc.

This European Prestandard specifies methods for the assessment of function blocks with regard to their fault behaviour and preventative measures. This European Prestandard covers control functions of electric and electronic controls that are used to prevent unsafe operation of gas burners and gas burning appliances.
NOTE 1: Function blocks which are not covered by dedicated control standards (see Annex A) are within the scope of this Prestandard.
NOTE 2: An electric or electronic device which contains a control function is based on the principle that it provides the same safety levels other technologies (e.g. mechanical solutions)
