This document specifies the characteristics for clay blocks in concrete ribbed floor systems. It specifies two types of clay blocks:
-   clay blocks for load-bearing"structural" use (semi-resisting clay blocks and resisting clay blocks)) with essential characteristics:
-   detailing:
-   dimensions;
-   minimum dimensions;
-   configuration;
-   density;
-   mechanical strength:
-   punching (resistance to concentrated loads);
-   longitudinal compressive strength;
-   bending strength;
-   fire:
-   resistance to fire;
-   reaction to fire;
-   thermal conductivity;
and:
-   clay blocks for non-load bearing-non-structural or light structural- use (low non-resisting clay blocks or non-resisting clay blocks) with essential characteristics:
-   detailing:
-   dimensions;
-   minimum dimensions;
-   configuration;
-   density;
-   mechanical strength:
-   punching (resistance to concentrated loads);
-   fire:
-   resistance to fire;
-   reaction to fire;
-   thermal conductivity.
The clay blocks are used with floor plates (EN 13747:2005+A2:2010) and in situ concrete, or only with in situ concrete for the construction of ribbed floor systems.
It includes the test/assessment methods and the way of expressing the test/assessment results.
It provides for the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP) of the product to maintain the performances related to the declared essential characteristics.
This document does not cover characteristics for clay blocks foreseen for beam-and-block floor systems as covered by EN 15037-3:2009+A1:2011.
