TC 62/SC 62C/WG 2
General Information
IEC 61675-1:2022 is available as IEC 61675-1:2022 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.
IEC 61675-1:2022 specifies terminology and test methods for declaring the characteristics of POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHS. POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHS detect the ANNIHILATION RADIATION of positron emitting RADIONUCLIDES by COINCIDENCE DETECTION. IEC 61675-1:2022 cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2013. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical change with respect to the previous edition: requirements have been changed or newly created regarding the technical aspects of SPATIAL RESOLUTION, sensitivity measurement, SCATTER FRACTION, COUNT RATE performance, image quality, PET/CT registration accuracy and time-of-flight resolution.

IEC 63073-1:2020 specifies terminology and test methods for describing the characteristics of SINGLE PHOTON EMISSION COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (SPECT) systems designed specifically for tomographic cardiac imaging. This includes dedicated systems or general purpose systems with dedicated sub-systems which are not included in the scope of IEC 61675-2.

IEC TR 61948-2:2019 is valid for single photon scintillation cameras with parallel hole collimators used in planar scintigraphy and tomography. It is also valid for the SPECT portion of SPECT/CT systems with parallel hole collimators, including the co-registration between the SPECT and CT subsystems. The objective is to specify ROUTINE TESTS for QUALITY CONTROL. Methods for the ACCEPTANCE TEST are described in IEC 61675-2.
IEC TR 61948-2:2019 cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2001. It constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) adaptation to apply to the present technology;
b) updating of the test methods to comply with the recent state of the art.

IEC TR 61948-4:2019 is available as IEC TR 61948-4:2019 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC TR 61948-4:2019 covers the routine testing of radionuclide calibrators used in nuclear medicine. Such devices utilise ionisation chambers of the well type and a direct readout in units of activity. Requirements and specific methods to determine performance parameters are described in IEC 61303. These methods are primarily designed for acceptance testing. IEC TR 61948-4:2019 cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2006. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical change with respect to the previous edition: the test method to determine system linearity has been updated to reflect the technical developments of radionuclide calibrators.

IEC TR 61948-3:2018(E) describes test methods for Positron Emission Tomographs (PET). As part of quality control, this document is defining routine tests to be performed by the user of Positron Emission Tomographs to maintain proper operation conditions. The results of these routine tests are compared to the reference data determined during or after acceptance test. Methods used for acceptance tests are described in IEC 61675-1:2013.
In addition, today a Positron Emission Tomograph often includes X-Ray equipment for Computed Tomography (CT). For this document, PET/CT hybrid devices are considered to be state of the art, dedicated Positron Emission Tomographs not including the X-ray component being special cases only.
quality control tests specific to only the CT component of the PET/CT are described in IEC 61223-2-6. The CT scanner also is subject to a type test according to IEC 60601-1 and applicable collateral and particular standards.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2005. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) a clause to check routine performance tests has been added,
b) a test to check the accuracy of co-registration of PET and CT images has been added,
c) a test to check image quality has been added,
d) the test to check pixel size has been removed.

IEC TR 61948-1:2016(E), which is a technical report, describes test methods of instruments that count and measure the energy of photons emitted by radionuclides in vivo and in vitro without the option of imaging. This includes, for example, well counters and organ probes. Geiger-Mueller counters and dose calibrators are not within the scope of this document. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2001. This edition constitutes a technical revision.

IEC 61675-2:2015 specifies terminology and test methods for describing the characteristics of gamma cameras equipped with parallel hole collimators for planar imaging. This second edition of IEC 61675-2 cancels and replaces the first edition published in 1998 and its Amendment 1 published in 2004, as well as IEC 60789:2005, IEC 60789:2005/COR1:2009, and IEC 61675-3:1998. It has been reformatted, updated, and partly aligned with NEMA NU 1-2007.

IEC 61675-1:2013 specifies terminology and test methods for declaring the characteristics of positron emission tomographs. Positron emission tomographs detect the annihilation radiation of positron emitting Radionuclides by coincidence detection. No test has been specified to characterize the uniformity of reconstructed images, because all methods known so far will mostly reflect the noise in the image. This second edition replaces the first edition of IEC 61675-1, published in 1998. This edition constitutes a technical revision. Requirements have been changed regarding the following technical aspects:
- spatial resolution;
- sensitivity measurement;
- scatter fraction;
- count rate performance;
- and image quality. Keywords: imaging, medical device
