ABSTRACT
This specification applies to eye protective devices, designed for use by players of the sport of paintball that minimize or significantly reduce injury to the eye and adnexa due to impact and penetration of paintballs. Field of view, refractive tolerances, astigmatism, power imbalance, prism imbalance, vertical imbalance, horizontal imbalances, luminous transmittance, haze, optical quality, and physical lens defects of the eye protective devices shall be tested to meet the requirements prescribed.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification applies to eye protective devices, designed for use by players of the sport of paintball, that minimize or significantly reduce injury to the eye and adnexa due to impact and penetration of paintballs.  
1.2 Eye protective devices meeting the requirements of this specification offers protection to the eyes and adnexa and not necessarily to any other parts of the head.  
1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.

INTRODUCTION
This is the specification for eye protective devices, or EPD, to be used in the sport of paintball.
Paintball is a sport that, like all sports, has intrinsic hazards. These hazards include being hit by
paintballs. Protective equipment cannot eliminate all injuries but will substantially reduce their
severity and frequency. Participation in this sport by a player implies acceptance of injury risk. The
goal of protective equipment is to minimize the risk of injury.
Performance requirements are presented and are intended to minimize injury with minimal
impairment of the form and appeal of the sport. This specification is subject to revision as indicated
by subsequent injury statistics.
The impact requirements are designed to give eye and adnexal protection from paintball impacts
likely to be encountered under game conditions. While the EPD also may protect the user from other
potential impacts, such as running into tree branches, there are many conceivable impacts, including
falls from heights, which could exceed the specification and result in eye injury despite the use of the
EPD.

The second type of protection adds coverage for the ears and face. The third type of coverage adds cranial coverage in addition to that provided to types II and III. These coverage types are defined in Section 8.  
1.3 This specification does not limit the wearing of eyeglasses or contact lenses when used in conjunction with the EHPD.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers eye protectors, designed for use by players of racket sports, women's lacrosse, field hockey, basketball, baseball, and soccer that minimize or significantly reduce injury to the eye and adnexa due to impact and penetration by racket-sport rackets and balls, women's lacrosse and field hockey sticks and balls, baseballs, soccer balls, hands, elbows, and fingers. Protective eyewear offers protection only to the eyes and does not protect other parts of the head. Protectors are divided into four types depending on their design characteristics as follows: Type I—A protector with the lens or lenses and frame frontpiece molded as one unit. Frame temples or other devices, such as straps, to affix the lens/frontpiece may be separate pieces; Type II—A protector with a single lens or lenses, either plano or prescription, mounted in a frame that was manufactured as a separate unit; Type III—A protector without a lens; and Type IV—A full or partial face shield. Materials shall be tested using optical tests such as field of view, optical quality, luminous transmittance, prismatic deviation measurements, haze, refractive power measurements, surface imperfections and internal defects, and alternate optical tests; and mechanical tests such as high velocity impact resistance, and projectile simulator test. In addition, the individual grades shall conform to the general, and performance requirements.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers eye protectors, designed for use by players of basketball, baseball, and soccer to minimize or significantly reduce injury to the eye and adnexa due to impact and penetration by baseballs and softballs, basketballs, soccer balls, hands, elbows, and fingers. Protective eyewear offers protection only to the eyes and adnexa and does not protect other parts of the head.  
1.2 Protectors are divided into three types depending on their design characteristics.  
1.3 This specification applies to eye protectors for use by wearers of corrective lenses and also by those players who do not require prescription eyewear. (Warning—Polycarbonate or Trivex spectacle lenses should be used if spectacles are worn under protective eyewear.)

Standard Specification for Helmets Used in Recreational Bicycling or Roller Skating

ABSTRACT
This specification covers performance requirements for helmets manufactured for use by recreational bicyclists or roller skaters. This specification recognizes the desirability of lightweight construction and ventilation; however, it is a performance standard and is not intended to restrict design. Helmets shall be impacted with anvils centered on or above the prescribed test line. The test anvils can be oriented in any horizontal, centered position. One each hot, cold, wet, and ambient helmet shall be impacted using the flat and hemispherical anvils only. The curbstone anvil shall be used to impact one time each of the second set of four samples, one conditioned under each of the four conditioning environments. The peak acceleration of the impulse during the impact shall be measured. The ambient helmet shall be subjected to the positional stability (roll-off) test, while the hot, cold, and wet helmets shall be subjected to the dynamic strength retention test.

ABSTRACT
This specification defines performance requirements for helmets used in nonmotorized recreational snow sports. The hot, cold, and wet helmets shall be subjected to the dynamic strength retention test. The ambient helmet shall be subjected to the positional stability (roll-off) test. Anvils to be used for impact tests in this specification are described as follows: flat anvil, hemispherical anvil, and edge anvil. All impacting shall be performed in accordance with the specified requirements.

Standard Specification for Helmets Used in Skateboarding and Trick Roller Skating

ABSTRACT
These specifications cover the design and performance requirements, and associated test procedures for helmets used in the activities of skateboarding and trick roller skating. When tested, the helmets shall meet specified requirements for the peak acceleration and time duration, headforms and sizes, anvils for impact (flat, cylindrical hazard, and triangular hazard anvils), dynamic strength retention system, and impact sites, velocity, and schedule.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers performance requirements for helmets to be used in the activities of skateboarding and trick roller skating.  
1.2 All testing and requirements of this specification shall be in accordance with Test Methods F1446, except where noted herein.  
1.3 Partial utilization of this specification is prohibited. Any statement of compliance with this specification shall be a certification that the headgear meets all of the requirements of the specification in their entirety. A headgear that fails to meet any one of the requirements of this specification is considered to have failed the specification, and shall not be sold with any indication that it meets parts of the specification.  
1.4 This standard is subject to revision at any time by ASTM. It must be reviewed every five years and if not revised either reapproved or withdrawn. References to the standard must include the version date. No references to a version that has been replaced or withdrawn shall be placed on any product or its packaging manufactured more than 24 months after the effective revision or withdrawal date.
