Standard Specification for Tables, Mess, Marine, Steel

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the construction of round, square, and rectangular marine mess tables with or without adjustable lee rails for use in crew, officer, and passenger dining areas aboard ship. These tables are classified into three types. Type I shall be a round mess table with a single pedestal, Type II is a square mess table with a single pedestal and Type III is a rectangular mess table. Type III table may be designated according to the number of pedestals it contains: Grade 1 with single pedestal and Grade 2 with two pedestals. These tables can also be designated into two classes: Class 1 has fixed lee rails and Class 2 has adjustable lee rails. Table tops shall be steel construction with a decorative melamine laminate top cover. Other materials or components of the table shall include lee rails, edge binders, pedestals, and support plate. Joining of metal components shall be done by welding or gluing with a structural adhesive. Tops for mess tables shall be capable of supporting a load of a certain kilogram uniformly distributed over an area of determined and placed at any location on the top. Load shall remain on top for a certain minimum time, and there shall be no indication of permanent set after removal of load.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the construction of round, square, and rectangular marine mess tables with or without adjustable lee rails for use in crew, officer, and passenger dining areas aboard ship.
