Standard Specification for Cleats, Welded Horn Type

ABSTRACT
This specification covers hollow welded horn type cleats and pads for marine use. The cleats shall be used where securing of boat handling lines are required onboard commercial and navy boats and crafts. The horn cleats shall be of galvanized steel, grade 1023W; the base plate shall be of the prescribed steel composition; and all chafing surfaces shall have the specified finish. The cleats� horns shall be of cast steel, round in shape, and free of burrs or sharp edges. The requirements for welding of horns to a base plate are illustrated. The dimensional requirements for cleat, rope circumference, and roper diameter are specified. Requirements for packaging and product marking are given as well.
