Petroleum and natural gas industries - Compact flanged connections with IX seal ring (ISO 27509:2012)

ISO 27509:2012 specifies detailed manufacturing requirements for circular steel and nickel alloy compact flanged connections and associated seal rings, for designated pressures and temperatures in class designations CL 150 (PN 20) to CL 1500 (PN 260) for nominal sizes from DN 15 (NPS ½) to DN 1200 (NPS 48), and for CL 2500 (PN 420) for nominal sizes from DN 15 (NPS ½) to DN 600 (NPS 24).
ISO 27509:2012 is applicable to welding neck flanges, blind flanges, paddle spacers and spacer blinds (paddle blanks), valve/equipment integral flanges, orifice spacers, reducing threaded flanges and rigid interfaces for use in process piping for the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries.
ISO 27509:2012 is applicable within a temperature range from -196 °C to +250 °C.
ISO 27509:2012 is not applicable for external pressure.

L'ISO 27509:2012 spécifie en détail les exigences de fabrication des assemblages à brides circulaires compactes en alliage d'acier et de nickel, ainsi que des bagues d'étanchéité associées, pour les pressions et températures désignées dans les classes CL 150 (PN 20) à CL 1500 (PN 260) pour les dimensions nominales DN 15 (NPS ½) à DN 1200 (NPS 48), et CL 2500 (PN 420) pour les dimensions nominales DN 15 (NPS ½) à DN 600 (NPS 24).
L'ISO 27509:2012 est applicable aux brides à collerette à souder bout à bout, aux brides pleines, aux entretoises creuses et aux obturateurs d'entretoise (tampons pleins), aux brides incorporées des robinetteries/équipements, aux entretoises à orifices, aux brides de réduction filetées et aux interfaces rigides des tuyauteries process utilisées dans les industries du pétrole, de la pétrochimie et du gaz naturel.
L'ISO 27509:2012 est applicable dans une plage de températures comprises entre -196 °C et +250 °C.

Ta mednarodni standard določa podrobne proizvodne zahteve za krožne kompaktne prirobnične konektorje iz jekla in nikljevih zlitin ter z njimi povezane tesnilne obroče za delovanje pri določenih tlakih in temperaturah z oznako razreda CL 150 (PN 20), CL 1500 (PN 260) za nominalne velikosti od DN 15 (NPS ½) do DN 1200 (NPS 48) in za CL 2500 (PN 420) za nominalne velikosti od DN 15 (NPS ½) do DN 600 (NPS 24).

This document (EN ISO 27509:2012) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 67 “Materials,
equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries” in collaboration
with Technical Committee CEN/TC 12 “Materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum,
petrochemical and natural gas industries” the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2013, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by June 2013.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent

This part of EN 14870 applies to weldneck and blind flanges (full face, raised face, and RTJ groove) as well as anchor, swivel-ring flanges and orifice flanges.
This part of EN 14870 specifies the technical requirements for carbon steel and low-alloy steel forged flanges for use in pipeline transportation systems for the petroleum and natural gas industries as defined in ISO 13623.
This part of EN 14870 designates those categories of flanges that meet the industry's need to match ISO 3183 pipe. These flanges are for normal and low-temperature service and include supplementary requirements where required for sour service.
Materials for, or the attachment of, factory-welded extensions, bolting materials, gaskets, slip-on flanges or flanged fittings are not covered by this part of EN 14870.
This part of EN 14870 is not applicable to integrally cast or forged flanges for valves, pumps or other equipment.
This part of EN 14870 does not cover the selection of the flange category or pressure class. Sizes and pressure classes listed in ISO 7005-1 and applicable to this part of EN 14870 are as follows:
-   DN 10 (NPS 1/2) to DN 1500 (NPS 60);
-   PN 20 (class 150), PN 50 (class 300), PN 100 (class 600), PN 150 (class 900), PN 250 (class 1500), PN 420 (class 2500).
On-land supply systems used by the gas supply industry are excluded from the scope of this document.

This document defines a calculation method for bolted, gasketed, circular flange joints. Its purpose is to ensure structural integrity and control of leak tightness. It uses gasket parameters based on definitions and test methods specified in EN 13555:2014.
The calculation method is not applicable to joints with a metallic contact out of the sealing face or to joints whose rigidity varies appreciably across gasket width. For gaskets in incompressible materials, which permit large deformations, the results given by the calculation method can be excessively conservative (i.e. required bolting load too high, allowable pressure of the fluid too low, required flange thickness too large, etc.).

This document covers wide tolerance couplings, stepped/reducing couplings and flange adaptors:
-   manufactured with socketed or flanged ends;
-   supplied externally and internally coated;
-   suitable for pipes made from ductile iron in conformity with EN 545, grey iron, PE in conformity with EN 12201-1 to EN 12201-5, PVC-U in conformity with EN ISO 1452-1 to EN ISO 1452-5, PVC-O in conformity with EN 17176-1 tot EN 17176-5, steel, fibre-cement in a size range extending from DN 40 to DN 800, for an allowable operating pressure (PFA) up to 16 bar, for fluid temperatures between 0 °C and 25 °C excluding frost. For higher temperatures, (up to 45 °C for PVC-U and PVC-O or 40 °C for PE) the PFA is derated as given in EN ISO 1452 and EN 12201;
-   not intended for use in areas subjected to reaction to fire regulations.
NOTE 1   This does not preclude special arrangements for the products to be used at higher temperatures. Temperature limitations and pressure limitations are those coming from the PVC-U, PVC-O or PE pipes.
This document covers ductile iron couplings, stepped/reducing couplings and flange adaptors cast by any type of foundry process or manufactured by fabrication of cast components, as well as corresponding joints, in a size range extending from DN 40 to DN 800.
As long as no equivalent European Standard exists for steel accessories, this document also covers couplings and flange adaptors which are fabricated partly or entirely from steel as well as corresponding joints, in a size range extending from DN 600 to DN 800.
This document specifies requirements for materials, dimensions and tolerances, mechanical properties and standard coatings. It also gives minimum performance requirements for all components, including restrained and non-restrained flexible joints. Joint design and gasket shapes are outside the scope of this document.
NOTE 2   PFA can be limited depending on pipe materials effectively connected.
NOTE 3   In this document, if not specified, all pressures are relative gauge pressures, expressed in bars (100 kPa = 1 bar).

Where material standard provides mechanical properties for the creep range respective reference is made in Table 3.
NOTE 2   Special services and ambient conditions may require the application of coatings. It is the purchaser’s option to decide on this. Depending on the coating used, a verification of the temperature ranges given in Table 3 and Table 4 may be required.
