ISO 13856-1:2013 establishes general principles and specifies requirements for the design and testing of pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive floors normally actuated by the feet for use as devices for protecting persons from hazardous machinery. The minimum safety requirements for the performance, marking and documentation are given.
ISO 13856-1:2013 is applicable to pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive floors, regardless of the type of energy used (e.g. electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical), designed to detect
—     persons weighing more than 35 kg, and
—     persons (e.g. children) weighing more than 20 kg.
It is not applicable to the detection of persons weighing less than 20 kg.
It does not specify the following because they are application-specific:
a)    dimensions or configuration of the effective sensing area of pressure-sensitive mat(s) or pressure-sensitive floor(s) in relation to any particular application;
b)    when pressure-sensitive mats or floors are appropriate in a particular situation;
c)    performance levels (PLs) for safety-related parts of control systems (SRP/CSs) other than providing a minimum level.
ISO 13856-1:2013 gives guidance to assist the user (i.e. machinery manufacturer and/or user of the machinery) in providing an adequate arrangement.

Dieser Teil von ISO 13856 stellt allgemeine Leitsätze auf und legt Anforderungen an die Gestaltung und Prüfung von Schaltmatten und Schaltplatten fest, die üblicherweise mit den Füßen betätigt werden und als nichttrennende Schutzeinrichtungen Verwendung finden, um Personen vor Gefährdungen zu schützen, die von Maschinen ausgehen. Die Mindestsicherheitsanforderungen werden in Bezug auf die Leistungsmerkmale, Kennzeichnung und Dokumentation angegeben.
Dieser Teil von ISO 13856 gilt, unabhängig von der eingesetzten Energie (z. B. elektrisch, hydraulisch, pneumatisch oder mechanisch) für Schaltmatten und Schaltplatten, die konstruiert wurden, um
 Personen mit einem Körpergewicht über 35 kg; und
 Personen (z. B. Kinder) mit einem Körpergewicht über 20 kg
zu erkennen.
Dieser Teil von ISO 13856 gilt nicht zur Erkennung von Personen mit einem Körpergewicht unter 20 kg.
Dieser Teil von ISO 13856 legt nicht die folgenden anwendungsbezogenen Punkte fest:
a) die Maße und Anordnungsformen der wirksamen Betätigungsfläche der Schaltmatte(n) bzw. Schaltplatte(n) im Hinblick auf eine besondere Anwendung;
b) wann Schaltmatten bzw. Schaltplatten in einer bestimmten Situation als geeignet anzusehen sind;
c) Performance Levels (PLs) für sicherheitsbezogene Teile von Steuerungen (SRP/CSs), die über das erforderliche Mindestniveau hinausgehen.
Dieser Teil von ISO 13856 gibt eine Anleitung, um den Anwender (d. h. den Hersteller und/oder den Anwender der Maschine) dabei zu unterstützen, eine geeignete Anordnung festzulegen.

L'ISO 13856-1:2013 établit les principes généraux et spécifie les exigences relatives à la conception et aux essais des tapis et planchers sensibles à la pression, normalement actionnés par les pieds, destinés à être utilisés comme dispositifs de protection des personnes contre les machines dangereuses. Les exigences de sécurité minimales pour les performances, le marquage et la documentation sont données.
L'ISO 13856-1:2013 est applicable aux tapis et planchers sensibles à la pression, quel que soit le type d'énergie mise en ?uvre (par exemple électrique, hydraulique, pneumatique ou mécanique), conçus pour détecter
        des personnes pesant plus de 35 kg, et
        des personnes (par exemple des enfants) pesant plus de 20 kg.
Elle n'est pas applicable à la détection de personnes pesant moins de 20 kg et ne couvre pas les applications spécifiques suivantes:
        détermination des dimensions ou de la configuration de la surface sensible effective du (des) tapis ou plancher(s) pour toute application spécifique;
        détermination de l'aptitude des tapis et planchers sensibles à la pression pour des applications particulières;
        niveaux de performance (PL) des parties des systèmes de commande relatives à la sécurité (SRP/CS) autres que ceux fournissant un niveau minimal.
L'ISO 13856-1:2013 donne des conseils pour permettre à l'utilisateur (c'est-à-dire le fabricant de la machine et/ou l'utilisateur de la machine) de fournir un aménagement adapté.

Ta del standarda ISO 13856 vzpostavlja splošna načela in določa zahteve za načrtovanje in preskušanje preprog in podov, občutljivih na tlak, ki se običajno aktivirajo z nogami in se uporabljajo kot naprave za zaščito oseb pred nevarnimi stroji. Podane so minimalne varnostne zahteve za delovanje, označevanje in dokumentacijo. This document (EN ISO 13856-1:2013) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 199 "Safety of
machinery" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 114 “Safety of machinery” the secretariat of
which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by October 2013, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by October 2013.
