EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 is a CENELEC European Amendment for the fibre optic connector interfaces of the Type SC connector family. It updates the European Standard EN IEC 61754-4:2022 with revised interface drawings, dimensions, grade characteristics and normative references for SC connector plugs and receptacles. Engineers, manufacturers, buyers and test laboratories use it to specify, make and check SC interface compatibility.

What does EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 specify?

EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 specifies amendments to the European Standard for Type SC fibre optic connector interfaces. In practice, it updates the interface definitions used when designing, inspecting or purchasing SC connector hardware.

The amendment is organized as changes to the existing figures, tables, bibliography and normative references, plus Annex ZA for the European references.

AnnexWhat it covers
ZANormative references to international publications and their corresponding European publications

What are the key requirements of EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026?

This amendment mainly redirects several dimensional and grade requirements to the IEC 61755-3 series and the IEC 63267-3 series, and it revises the drawings and tables for SC plug and receptacle interfaces. For users, that means some interface details now have to be checked against companion standards instead of the earlier individual references.

Normative references and companion series

  • EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 adds the IEC 61755-3 series and the IEC 63267-3 series as normative references. This matters because the SC interface requirements now rely on those series for connector parameter values.
  • Annex ZA maps those international publications to their European publications. In practice, a buyer or test lab can use the European equivalents when specifying conformance in Europe.

Simplex and duplex PC plug interfaces

  • The amendment replaces the drawings for the simplex PC plug connector interface and the duplex PC plug connector interface. It also updates the related dimension tables so that several dimensions are now defined by the IEC 61755-3 series or the IEC 63267-3 series.
  • The grade tables for simplex and duplex PC plug connectors are revised. Grade A is no longer given a specific grade value in these tables, while grades B, C and D now point to the updated companion series. This matters when selecting ferrules or checking incoming parts against a defined grade.

Angled PC plug interfaces and gauge checks

  • The simplex and duplex angled PC plug connector interfaces are updated, including changes to figure titles and the associated dimensional table entries. One duplex angled dimension is newly constrained, which is relevant for mechanical fit and mating checks.
  • The pin gauge dimension table is also revised, with the surface finish requirement rewritten as an Ra limit. For production and inspection teams, that affects the acceptance criteria for gauges used in checking connector parts.

Active device receptacle interface

  • The table for the simplex active device receptacle interface for the PC connector plug is updated. The change tightens one listed maximum dimension, so manufacturers and inspectors need to use the amended limit when verifying receptacles intended for active devices.

What terms does EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 define?

  • SC - The connector family named in the standard’s title and interface drawings.
  • PC - Physically contacting, used for the plug connector interface variants covered here.
  • Simplex - A single connector interface arrangement.
  • Duplex - A paired connector interface arrangement.
  • Active device receptacle interface - The receptacle interface used with a PC connector plug on active devices.
  • Ra - A surface roughness parameter used for the pin gauge finish requirement.
  • CENELEC - European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization.
  • IEC - International Electrotechnical Commission.

Who uses EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026?

EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 is used by fibre optic connector manufacturers, component designers, quality managers, test laboratories and conformity assessment bodies. It is also relevant to purchasers and specification writers who need to define SC interface compatibility for fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components.

What changed in EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 from the previous edition?

EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 modifies EN IEC 61754-4:2022 by updating the technical basis for several SC interface dimensions and grades. The amendment:

  • adds normative references to the IEC 61755-3 series and the IEC 63267-3 series;
  • replaces the main simplex PC plug figure and the simplex PC plug and duplex PC plug interface figures;
  • revises tables for simplex and duplex PC plug dimensions and grade characteristics;
  • revises the pin gauge finish requirement;
  • updates the simplex and duplex angled PC plug interface tables and figure titles;
  • updates the simplex active device receptacle interface table;
  • adjusts Annex ZA and the bibliography notes.

Which standards are used with EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026?

EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 uses two companion series as normative references:

  • IEC 61755-3 series - provides connector parameters for dispersion unshifted single-mode physically contacting fibres.
  • IEC 63267-3 series - provides connector parameters for physically contacting 50 μm core diameter fibres for enhanced macrobend multimode fibres.

These references supply the detailed parameter values that the amended SC interface tables point to.

What does the EN IEC 61754-4:2022/A1:2026 document contain?

The document contains amended interface drawings, dimension tables, grade characteristic tables, a pin gauge table and an active device receptacle table. It also contains Annex ZA, which links the referenced IEC publications to their European equivalents.

For practical use, the document supports design checks, incoming inspection, compatibility verification and specification writing for SC fibre optic connector interfaces.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are m
