Safety of power transformers, power supply units and similar products - Part 2-9: Particular requirements for transformers for class III handlamps for tungsten filament lamps

This Part 2-9 of EN 61558 applies to stationary or portable single-phase air-cooled (natural or forced) associated safety isolating transformers for class III handlamps for tungsten filament lamps, having a rated supply voltage not exceeding 1 000 V a.c., a rated frequency not exceeding 500 Hz and a rated output not exceeding 10 kVA. It has the status of a group safety publication in accordance with IEC Guide 104

EN 61558-2-9:2003 - 2 - Foreword The text of document 96/184/FDIS, future edition 1 of IEC 61558-2-9, prepared by IEC TC 96, Small power transformers, reactors, supply units and similar products, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 61558-2-9 on 2002-12-01.
This Part 2-9 of EN 61558 replaces section 4 of chapter III of EN 60742:1995.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement
(dop) 2003-09-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn
(dow) 2005-12-01
This Part 2-9 is intended to be used in conjunction with EN 61558-1:1997. This Part 2-9 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in EN 61558-1, so as to convert that publication into the European Standard: Particular requirements for transformers for class III handlamps for tungsten filament lamps. When a particular subclause of Part 1 is not mentioned in this Part 2-9, that subclause applies as far as is reasonable. Where this Part 2-9 states “addition”, “modification” or “replacement”, the relevant text of Part 1 is to be adapted accordingly. In this standard, the following print types are used: - requirements proper: in roman type; - test specifications: in italic type; - explanatory matter: in smaller roman type. In the text of this standard the words in bold are defined in clause 3. IEC 61558-1:2017 deals with safety aspects of transformers, reactors, power supply units and combinations thereof such as electrical, thermal and mechanical safety. This document covers the following independent or associated stationary or portable types of dry-type transformers, power supply units, including switch mode power supply units, reactors and combinations thereof in the field of safety. The windings can be encapsulated or non-encapsulated. They are not forming a part of the distribution network. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2005 and Amendment 1:2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
