IEC 60794-4-20:2012(E) is a family specification, covers optical telecommunication cables, commonly with single-mode fibres to be used primarily in overhead power lines applications. The cable may also be used in other overhead utility networks, such as for telephony or TV services. Requirements of the sectional specification IEC 60794-4 for aerial optical cables along electrical power lines are applicable to cables covered by this standard. Ta del standarda IEC 60794, ki je skupinska specifikacija, zajema optične telekomunikacijske kable, običajno z enomodnimi vlakni za uporabo predvsem v nadzemnih elektroenergetskih vodih. Kabel se lahko uporablja tudi v drugih nadzemnih distribucijskih omrežjih, npr. za telefonske ali televizijske storitve. Zahteve področne specifikacije IEC 60794-4 za nadzemne optične kable vzdolž elektroenergetskih vodov se uporabljajo za kable iz tega standarda. OPOMBA: za nekatere posebne primere v električni industriji so lahko nadzemni vodi izdelani tudi z večmodnimi vlakni. Kabel ADSS je sestavljen iz enomodnih optičnih vlaken, ki so v eni ali več zaščitnih dielektričnih optičnih enotah, ki jih obkroža ali pa so pritrjene na dele ustrezne dielektrične trdnosti in plašče. Kabel nima kovinskih delov. Kabel ADSS je izdelan tako, da izpolnjuje optične in mehanske zahteve različnih vrst namestitve, vzdrži delovne in okoljske pogoje ter obremenitve, kot je opisano v prilogi B. Ta standard določa izdelavo, mehansko, električno in optično zmogljivost, smernice za namestitev, kriterije sprejemljivosti, preskusne zahteve, okoljske pomisleke ter skladnost pripomočkov za dielektrične samonosne (ADSS) optične kable. Standard določa zahteve glede zasnove in zmogljivosti, ki v okviru smernic tega standarda zagotavljajo ustrezne mehanske lastnosti sestavnih delov kabla ter pravilno vzdrževanje integritete optičnih vlaken in optičnega prenosa. Standard ne zajema »povezanih« ali »ovitih« kablov OPAC. Uporaba kablov, ki se nameščajo v skladu s standardom ISO/IEC 24702 in povezanimi standardi, lahko zahteva specifikacije dodatnih preskusov, da se zagotovi njihova primernost za uporabo v okoljih, ki so opredeljena z mehansko, vdorno, podnebno, kemično in elektromagnetno (MICE) razvrstitvijo. Ti preskusi ne spadajo na področje uporabe specifikacij za kable IEC 60794, kriteriji MICE pa niso del zahtev za specifikacije IEC 60794. Preskusi MICE so lahko enaki kot preskusi, ki jih zahtevajo specifikacije IEC 60794, lahko so jim podobni ali pa se od njih znatno razlikujejo.
