Interpretation of the first paragraph of 6.2

The reference to 5.2 of IEC 60947-1:2007, IEC 60947-1:2007/AMD1:2010 is intended to cover
the whole subclause where its first paragraph can be discarded.
In particular, the third paragraph of this Subclause 5.2 requiring the marking on the equipment
of manufacturer's name or trademark and type designation or serial number is covering items
a) and b) of 6.1.1 of IEC 60947-4-1:2018.

Interpretation of the rated operational current of Table 13 and Table 14

Tables 13 and 14 are intended to be used for contactors and starters specified for motor

loads. If the contactor or starter is specified with more than one motor load utilization category

(AC-2, AC-3, AC-3e or AC-4), the rated operational current I corresponding to the utilization
e
category AC-3 is preferred for determining the prospective current “r” for the test.

The utilization category AC-3 is considered as the most representative use case and is

deemed to cover the other motor utilization categories.

IEC 60947-4-1:2023 is applicable to the following equipment:

Electromechanical contactors for household and similar purposes

IEC 61095:2023 is available as IEC 61095:2023 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 61095:2023 applies to electromechanical air break contactors for household and similar purposes provided with main contacts intended to be connected to circuits the rated voltage of which does not exceed 440 V AC (between phases) with rated operational currents less than or equal to 63 A for utilization category AC-7a, and 32 A for utilization categories AC‑7b, AC‑7c and AC-7d (expressed in rated power), and rated conditional short-circuit current less than or equal to 6 kA. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) addition of requirements for screwless terminals;
b) addition of requirements for the switching of LED lamps. Contactors for domestic and similar applications can be used for controlling lighting loads which is increasingly using LED lamp technology. A specific category for contactors is created: AC-7d. Requirements and tests are added to cover this market development, mainly for making and breaking and conventional operational performance;
c) addition of requirements for contactors with electronically controlled electromagnet. Household contactors with electronically controlled electromagnet are available for years on the market. To fully cover such device, requirements and tests are added, dealing mainly with operating limits, behaviour in abnormal conditions, breakdown of components, EMC tests, etc.
d) embedded software. More and more contactors are incorporating electronic circuits with embedded software. A reference is provided to guide the design of the software.

IEC 60947-4-1:2009 applies to the types of equipment whose main contacts are intended to be connected to circuits the rated voltage of which does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c. Starters and/or contactors dealt with in this standard are not normally designed to interrupt short-circuit currents. Therefore, suitable short-circuit protection forms part of the installation but not necessarily of the contactor or the starter. This third edition replaces the second edition published in 2000 and its Amendments 1 (2002) and 2 (2005). It is a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition (2000) and its Amendments 1 (2002) and 2 (2005):
- deletion of the test at -5 °C and +20 °C for thermal overload relays that are not compensated for ambient air temperature;
- addition of conditions of the tests according to Annex Q of IEC 60947-1;
- EMC tests: clarification of acceptance criteria and alignment with IEC 60947-1 for fast transient severity level;
- Annex B, test for Icd: modification of the duration of the dielectric test voltage from 5 s to 60 s;
- Annex B, electrical durability: improvement of the statistical aspects;
- Annex H: clarification and introduction of new extended functions within electronic overload relays;
- Annex K, procedure to determine data for electromechanical contactors used in functional safety applications: creation of this new annex. This standard shall be read in conjunction with IEC 60947-1, Low voltage switchgear and controlgear - Part 1: General rules. The provisions of the general rules are applicable to this standard, where specifically called for.

IEC 60947-7-2:2009 specifies requirements for protective conductor terminal blocks with PE function up to 120 mm2 (250 kcmil) and for protective conductor terminal blocks with PEN function equal to and above 10 mm2 (AWG 8) with screw-type or screwless-type clamping units, primarily intended for industrial applications. Protective conductor terminal blocks are used to form the electrical and mechanical connection between copper conductors and the fixing support. lt is applicable to protective conductor terminal blocks for the connection of round copper conductors with or without special preparation having a cross-section between 0,2 mm2 and 120 mm2 (AWG 24 and 250 kcmil), intended to be used in circuits of a rated voltage not exceeding 1 000 V a.c. up to 1 000 Hz or 1 500 V d.c., most commonly in conjunction with terminal blocks according to IEC 60947-7-1. This standard may be used as guide for
- protective conductor terminal blocks requiring the fixing of special devices to the conductors, for example quick connect terminations or wrapped connections, etc.;
- protective conductor terminal blocks providing direct contact to the conductors by means of edges or points penetrating the insulation, for example insulation displacement connections, etc.
Where applicable in this standard, the term "clamping unit" has been used instead of the term "terminal". This is taken into account in case of reference to IEC 60947-1. The main technical modifications of this standard since this previous publication are listed below:
- requirements for tightening torques for the tests improved and referenced to Table 4 of IEC 60947-1, Annex B deleted;
- the wording of the short-time withstand current test improved in 8.4.6.
This publication shall be read in conjunction with IEC 60947-1:2007 and IEC 60947-7-1:2009.

Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear - Part 7-3: Ancillary equipment - Safety requirements for fuse terminal blocks

IEC 60947-7-3:2009 applies to fuse terminal blocks with screw-type or screwless-type clamping units for the connection of rigid (solid or stranded) or flexible copper conductors for the reception of cartridge fuse-links in accordance with IEC 60127-2, intended primarily for industrial or similar use in circuits not exceeding 1 000 V a.c., up to 1 000 Hz or 1 500 V d.c., and having a maximum short-circuit breaking capacity of 1 500 A. They are intended for installation in electrical equipment with enclosures which surround the fuse terminal blocks to such an extent that they are accessible only with the aid of a tool. For certain applications, for example in control circuits, the fuse terminal blocks may be designed exclusively for short-circuit protection. The object of this standard is to specify safety requirements and test methods for the mechanical, electrical and thermal characteristics of fuse terminal blocks, to ensure the compatibility between terminal blocks and standardized fuse-links. This standard may be used as a guide for
- fuse terminal blocks requiring the fixing of special devices to the conductors, for example quick connect terminations or wrapped connections, etc.;
- fuse terminal blocks providing direct contact to the conductors by means of edges or points penetrating the insulation, for example insulation displacement connections, etc.
Where applicable in this standard, the term "clamping unit" has been used instead of the term "terminal". This is taken into account in case of reference to IEC 60947-1. The main technical modifications of this standard since this previous publication are listed below:
- requirements regarding clearances and creepage distances replaced by reference to Annex H of IEC 60947-1;
- requirements for the test of the mechanical strength of the clamping units improved in 8.3.3.1;
- requirements for tightening torques for the tests improved and referenced to Table 4 of IEC 60947-1;
- requirements for the resistance and the dimensions of dummy fuse-links specified in 8.5.2.5.
