Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO
collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies
for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member
bodies casting a vote.
Light gauge metal
International Standard ISO 1361 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 52,
containers, Subcommittee 4, Open-top containers.
This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 1361:1983), in which the following
technical changes have been made:
— nearly all dimensions and tolerances of the actual internal body diameters have been slightly
changed to reflect the most current practice ;
— nominal necked-in diameters are included which, associated with the internal body diameters,
allow the stacking of three-piece cans ;
— the following diameters, which were considered acceptable until the end of 1987, are
deleted :
56; 57; 61; 70; 71; 72; 93; 100; 109; 113; 126; 135; 138; 154 ;
— a new list of diameters which are acceptable for a five-year period has been drawn up.

1  Scope
This International Standard establishes a list of recommended diameters for round two-piece and three-
piece cans in tinplate or aluminium seamed after filling and defined by their nominal gross lidded
capacity.

L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) est une fédération mondiale d'organismes nationaux de
normalisation (comités membres de l'ISO). L'élaboration des Normes internationales est en général confiée aux
comités techniques de l'ISO. Chaque comité membre intéressé par une étude a le droit de faire partie du comité
technique créé à cet effet. Les organisations internationales, gouvernementales et non gouvernementales, en
liaison avec l'ISO participent également aux travaux. L'ISO collabore étroitement avec la Commission
électrotechnique internationale (CEI) en ce qui concerne la normalisation électrotechnique.
Les projets de Normes internationales adoptés par les comités techniques sont soumis aux comités membres pour
vote. Leur publication comme Normes internationales requiert l'approbation de 75 % au moins des comités-
membres votants.
La Norme internationale ISO 1361 a été élaborée par le comité technique ISO/TC 52, Récipients métalliques légers,
sous-comité 4, Récipients sertis.
Cette quatrième édition annule et remplace la troisième édition (ISO 1361:1983) dans laquelle les modifications
techniques suivantes ont été faites:
— pratiquement toutes les dimensions et tolérances des diamètres intérieurs effectifs du corps ont été légèrement
modifiées pour refléter les pratiques les plus courantes ;
— la présente version comprend des diamètres nominaux de rétreint qui, associés aux diamètres intérieurs du
corps des boîtes, permettent l'empilabilité des boîtes trois pièces ;
— d'autre part, les diamètres ci-après, considérés acceptables jusqu'à la fin 1987, ont été supprimés :
   56 ; 57 ; 61 ; 70 ; 71 ; 72 ; 93 ; 100 ; 109 ; 113 ; 126 ; 135 ; 138 ; 154 ;
— une nouvelle liste de diamètres acceptables pour une période transitoire de 5 ans a été établie.
