BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 19, Deckbolts, was drawn up by the Technical
Committee IS0 /TC 8, Shipbuilding Details for Sea Navigation, the Secretariat
of which is held by the Hoofdcommissie voor de Normalisatie in Nederland
(H. C. N. N.).
The Technical Committee, at its first meeting, held in Pans in June 1949,
unanimously decided to adopt as a basis of discussion the ISA Bulletin 17,
item 3, published in 1938 by the former International Federation of the National
Standardizing Associations (ISA), and also the French Standard J 35-220,
published in 1947. It was agreed to add to the nominal diameters of the ISA
Bulletin 17 the 14 mm diameter specified in the French Standard. It was also
decided to reduce to a minimum the lengths of the bolts so as to allow the
decks to wear out as much as possible before the deck plugs, fixed above the bolts,
come out or wear away.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation IS0 /R 19, Boulons de pont, a été élaborée par le Comit6
Technique IS0 /TC 8, Construction de navires pour la navigafion maritime, dont
le Secretariat est assume par la Hoofdcommissie voor de Normalisatie in Nederland
(H. C. N. N.).
Au cours de sa première réunion, tenue Q Paris, en juin 1949, le Comité
Technique décida, Q l’unanimité, de prendre pour base de discussion le Bulletin
ISA 17, point 3, publié en 1938 par l’ancienne F6dBration Internationale des
Associations Nationales de Normalisation (ISA), ainsi que la norme française
J 35-220, publiée en 1947. I1 fut convenu de compléter les diamètres nominaux
du Bulletin ISA 17 par le diamètre de 14 mm prevu dans la norme française.
Par ailleurs, il fut décide de réduire au minimum la longueur des boulons,

afin de permettre aux bordes de s’user au maximum avant que les tapereaux
fixes dans le borde au-dessus des boulons se détachent ou soient us&.
