Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted
by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International
Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standard may be the subject of

Road vehicles — Drawbar couplings — Interchangeability
1 Scope
This International Standard specifies the characteristics necessary for the mounting and interchangeability of
drawbar couplings on the frame (cross member, drawbeam or mounting bracket) of towing vehicles for trailers.
This International Standard is applicable to drawbar couplings intended for connection to trailers equipped with a
drawbar eye on the drawbar of the trailer.
Characteristics not specified are left to the discretion of the component manufacturer.
2 Normative references

publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to

3 Designation
3.1 Reference may be made to this International Standard both for drawbar coupling mounting dimensions on
the frame and for the separate drawbar coupling.
3.2 Frames in conformance with this International Standard shall be identified by the following information, in the
order given:
a) reference to this International Standard;
b) number of category according to Table 1.
EXAMPLE Frames with mounting dimensions according to category 3:

3.3 Drawbar couplings meeting the requirements of this International Standard shall be identified by the following
information, in the order given:
a) reference to this International Standard;
b) code C 40 for 40 mm drawbar couplings and C 50 for 50 mm drawbar couplings, as applicable;
c) number of category according to Table 1 or number of class according to Table 4.

1 Domaine d'application
La présente Norme internationale spécifie les caractéristiques nécessaires au montage et à l’interchangeabilité des
dispositifs d’attelage montés sur le châssis (traverse, «drawbeam» ou support de montage) des véhicules tracteurs
de véhicules remorqués.
Elle s’applique aux dispositifs d’attelage destinés au remorquage des véhicules équipés d’un anneau de
remorquage sur le timon.
Les caractéristiques non spécifiées sont laissées à la discrétion du fabricant du dispositif.
2 Références normatives
Les documents normatifs suivants contiennent des dispositions qui, par suite de la référence qui y est faite,
constituent des dispositions valables pour la présente Norme internationale. Pour les références datées, les

3 Désignation
3.1 Il peut être fait référence à la présente Norme internationale pour les cotes de montage du dispositif
d’attelage sur le châssis et pour le dispositif d’attelage en tant qu’entité.
3.2 Les châssis conformes à la présente Norme internationale doivent être identifiés par les informations
suivantes, dans l’ordre suivant:
a) référence à la présente Norme internationale;
b) numéro de la catégorie conforme au Tableau 1.
EXEMPLE Châssis avec cotes de montage conformes à la catégorie 3:

3.3 Les dispositifs d’attelage conformes à la présente Norme internationale doivent être identifiés par les
informations suivantes, dans l’ordre suivant:
a) référence à la présente Norme internationale;
b) code C 40 pour dispositifs d’attelage de 40 mm et code C 50 pour dispositifs d’attelage de 50 mm, selon le
cas;
c) numéro de la catégorie conformément au Tableau 1, ou numéro de la classe conformément au Tableau 4.
