BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 167, Bend Test on Steel Tubes, was drawn up by
Technical Committee ISO/TC 17, Steel, the Secretariat of which is held by the British
Standards Institution (B.S.I.).

At the fourth meeting
a draft proposal concerning a bend test on steel tubes, was first submitted. It was, however,
suggested at that meeting that the drafts should be submitted to Technical Committee
ISO/TC 5, Pipes und Fittings, for comments, and that these comments, together with
those of the members of Technical Committee ISO/TC 17, should be considered by
Working Group No. 1 with a view to establish the revised draft proposal.
At the time of the fifth meeting of the Technical Committee, held in London, in
March 1957, this test, together with four others for steel tubes, was still under con-
sideration by Working Group No. 1.
At the sixth plenary meeting, held in Harrogate, in June 1958, a new draft proposal was
placed before Technical Committee lSO/TC 17 for consideration and, with one or two
minor editorial amendments, was accepted as suitable for circulation to the members of
the Technical Committee for postal approval.
As a result of that circulation, certain other minor amendments were made and a
revised draft was sent to the General Secretariat as a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
On 24 July 1959, the Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 290) was distributed to all the
IS0 Member Bodies and was approved by the following Member Bodies:

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 167, Essai de cintrage des tubes en acier, a été élaborée
par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 17, Acier, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par la British
Standards Institution (B.S.I.).
C’est au cours de sa quatrième réunion, tenue à Stockholm, en juin 1955, que le
Comité Technique ISO/TC 17 examina pour la première fois un avant-projet concernant
un essai de cintrage des tubes en acier. I1 fut toutefois décidé, au cours de cette réunion,
que les avant-projets seraient soumis pour avis au Comité Technique ISO/TC 5, Tuyau-
teries et Raccords, et que les commentaires de ce dernier, de même que les commentaires
des membres du Comité Technique ISO/TC 17, seraient ensuite examinés par le Groupe
de Travail No 1, en vue de l’établissement d’un avant-projet revisé.
Au moment de la cinquième réunion du Comité Technique, tenue à Londres, en
mars 1957, cet essai, ainsi que quatre autres essais concernant ces tubes en acier, étaient
toujours encore à l’étude au sein du Groupe de Travail No 1.
Un nouvel avant-projet fut présenté au Comité Technique ISO/TC 17, lors de la
sixième réunion plénière, tenue à Harrogate, en juin 1958 et, après incorporation de
quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, fut accepté pour être soumis aux membres
du Comité Technique pour approbation par correspondance.
A la suite de cette enquête, l’avant-projet subit encore quelques légères modifications et
un texte revisé fut transmis au Secrétariat Général comme Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En date du 24 juillet 1959, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 290) fut distribué
à tous les Comités Membres de 1’ISO et approuvé par les Comités Membres suivants:
