ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO

1 Scope
This International Standard provides guidelines for carrying out comparative testing of alpine skis with the objective
of evaluating the performance characteristics.
It is applicable to alpine skis in accordance with ISO 6289.
2 Normative reference
The following standard contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this
International Standard. At the time of publication, the edition indicated was valid. All standards are subject to
revision, and parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the
possibility of applying the most recent edition of the standard indicated below. Members of IEC and ISO maintain
registers of currently valid International Standards.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this International Standard, the terms and definitions given in ISO 6289 and the following apply.
3.1
edge grip
ski characteristic pertaining to the prevention of undesired side-slipping on hard snow for a given slope steepness
and a given edging angle
3.2
turn initiation
ski characteristic pertaining to the force which is needed to initiate the turn
NOTE The less force and movement required, the greater the turnability.
3.3
stability
ski characteristic pertaining to maintaining direction at a given speed when subjected to alternating left and right
deviations
3.4
carving turn
ski characteristic pertaining to the execution of a carved turn of a given radius on hard snow with minimal skidding
or chattering
3.5
steering behaviour
ski characteristic pertaining to the execution and completion of a turn, in order to change direction

4 Principle
Evaluation of ski performance through
 subjective and comparative rating by competent test personnel based on the test criteria provided, and
 statistical support by using sufficient individual results with regard to test personnel, terrain conditions and test
skis.
5 Test conditions
The test run shall provide terrain on which all skiing manoeuvres can be carried out. The site shall permit every
tester to conduct the same manoeuvres at the same place on the slope.
The test shall be carried out in hard and well-prepared snow conditions.
Each tester shall test every ski of a predetermined group of skis. Skis belonging to the same category of test skis
shall be tested within one day, provided that snow conditions do not change considerably during the course of the
day. If snow conditions do change considerably within the course of the day, the test shall be interrupted and be

La présente Norme internationale spécifie les principes directeurs pour la réalisation d'essais comparatifs sur des
skis alpins, avec pour objectif l'évaluation des caractéristiques de performance.
Elle s'applique aux skis alpins conformes à l'ISO 6289.
2 Référence normative
La norme suivante contient des dispositions qui, par suite de la référence qui en est faite, constituent des
dispositions valables pour la présente Norme internationale. Au moment de la publication, l'édition indiquée était en
vigueur. Toute norme est sujette à révision et les parties prenantes des accords fondés sur la présente Norme
internationale sont invitées à rechercher la possibilité d'appliquer l'édition la plus récente de la norme indiquée

3 Termes et définitions
Pour les besoins de la présente Norme internationale, les termes et définitions donnés dans ISO 6289, ainsi que les
suivants, s'appliquent.
3.1
tenue de carres
caractéristique du ski permettant d'éviter les glissements latéraux imprévus sur neige dure, pour un angle donné de
prise de carre et une pente donnée
3.2
déclenchement du virage
caractéristique du ski concernant l'effort nécessaire pour déclencher un virage
NOTE La maniabilité est d'autant plus grande que l'effort et le mouvement requis sont moindres.
3.3
stabilité
caractéristique du ski lui permettant de garder sa direction, à une vitesse donnée, malgré des perturbations de
gauche et de droite
3.4
virage coupé
caractéristique du ski permettant l'exécution d'un virage coupé, suivant un rayon donné, sur neige dure, avec un
minimum de dérapage et de broutage

4 Principe
Évaluation du comportement à l'usage des skis par
 un classement subjectif et comparatif par des essayeurs compétents, sur la base de critères d'essai définis;
 un support statistique s'appuyant sur un nombre suffisant de résultats isolés, en tenant compte des essayeurs,
des conditions de terrain et des skis d'essai.
5 Conditions d'essai
Le parcours d'essai doit offrir un terrain sur lequel toutes les manœuvres à skis sont possibles. Ce site doit
permettre à tous les essayeurs d'exécuter les mêmes manœuvres, au même endroit de la pente.
L'essai doit être effectué sur neige dure et bien préparée.
Chaque essayeur doit essayer tous les skis d'un groupe prédéterminé. Les skis entrant dans la même catégorie de
skis d'essai doivent être essayés en une journée, si les conditions de neige ne varient pas considérablement au
cours de la journée. Sinon, l'essai doit être interrompu et poursuivi dès le lendemain, sous réserve que les
conditions de neige soient comparables.
6 Essayeurs
6.1 Exigences
Les essayeurs doivent être indépendants, neutres et discrets, tels que des experts assermentés.
