Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through
ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has
been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental
and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.

AMENDMENT 1

Conformant with ISO Guide 78 , this Amendment supports regional technical regulations for machinery

safety according to the principles of UNECE Recommendation L . It comprises minor technical changes to
the existing International Standard, aimed at ensuring compliance of the current edition of ISO 12100-2 with
the relevant Essential Requirements of New Approach Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery, which replaces
New Approach Directive 98/37/EC and enters into force on 2009-12-29 without a transition period.
IMPORTANT — This Amendment does not specify any technical change not directly required as a
consequence of the new European legislation.

Avant-propos
L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) est une fédération mondiale d'organismes nationaux de
normalisation (comités membres de l'ISO). L'élaboration des Normes internationales est en général confiée
aux comités techniques de l'ISO. Chaque comité membre intéressé par une étude a le droit de faire partie du
comité technique créé à cet effet. Les organisations internationales, gouvernementales et non
gouvernementales, en liaison avec l'ISO participent également aux travaux. L'ISO collabore étroitement avec
la Commission électrotechnique internationale (CEI) en ce qui concerne la normalisation électrotechnique.
Les Normes internationales sont rédigées conformément aux règles données dans les Directives ISO/CEI,
Partie 2.
La tâche principale des comités techniques est d'élaborer les Normes internationales. Les projets de Normes

Conformément au Guide ISO 78 , le présent amendement a pour but de venir à l’appui de réglementations
techniques régionales en matière de sécurité des machines conformément aux principes de la

Recommandation L de l’UNECE . Il propose des modifications techniques mineures de la Norme
internationale existante, afin de garantir la conformité de la présente édition de l’ISO 12100-2 aux exigences
essentielles applicables de la Directive Nouvelle approche 2006/42/EC portant sur les machines, qui entrera
en vigueur le 2009-12-29 en remplacement de la Directive Nouvelle approche 98/37/CE, sans période
transitoire.
