SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003 is the Slovenian adoption of ETS 300 475-1 from ETSI. It specifies a reference configuration for Private Telecommunication Network eXchanges (PTNXs) and aligns that configuration with ISO/IEC 11579-1 (1994), with agreed modifications.
The standard is aimed at people defining PTN-related specifications and PTNX configurations. In practice, it gives a common reference model for Private Telecommunication Networks (PTNs) and the way their exchange functions are described.
What does SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003 specify?
SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003 specifies a reference configuration for PTNXs. Its core purpose is to define how the PTNX reference model is structured so that other PTN-related ETSs can use the same concepts and terminology.
The document focuses on a configuration where the information flows at the C reference point and the T reference point are separated. That matters because it fixes the architectural split that other PTN specifications can build on.
The foreword places this part in a three-part PTN series:
- Part 1 - reference configuration for PTNXs
- Part 2 - reference configuration for High-Speed PTN eXchanges
- Part 3 - reference configuration for PTNX Extension Lines
What are the key requirements of SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003?
- Clause 1 limits the ETS to a reference configuration with separated C and T reference point information flows. In practice, PTNX designs should respect that separation when describing interfaces and internal functions.
- Clause 1 also says the ETS is applicable to other ETSs covering PTNs. This means later PTN standards can rely on its concepts instead of redefining them.
- Clause 1 states that another ETS is deemed compliant if it makes reference to, or uses, concepts defined here. In practice, this creates a shared terminology base for related specifications.
- Clause 2 adds ETS 300 415 as a normative reference. That matters because readers need ETS 300 415 for the official PTN and PTNX terms used in this ETS.
- Subclause 4.4 replaces the older PISN wording with the PTN definition. A PTN is a network for a predetermined set of users, and the word “private” does not mean ownership.
- Subclause 4.4 also notes that PTNs are sometimes called Corporate Telecommunication Networks (CTNs). In practice, this helps readers map different industry terms to the same network concept.
- Subclause 4.5 defines PTNX as a PTN nodal entity that provides automatic switching and call handling functions. This tells implementers that the PTNX is the exchange function in the private network architecture.
- Subclause 4.5 says a PTNX may be implemented by one or more pieces of equipment on the private network administrator’s premises, or by equipment co-located with, or physically part of, a public network. That gives flexibility in how the exchange is realized.
- Subclause 4.5 says a PTNX may provide services within its own area, from the public ISDN, from other public or private networks, or from other PTNXs. In practice, the exchange is defined as a service access and routing point, not just an internal switch.
What terms does SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003 define?
- PTN - A Private Telecommunication Network serves a predetermined set of users rather than the general public.
- PTNX - A Private Telecommunication Network eXchange is the nodal entity that provides switching and call handling for telecommunication services.
- PISN - Private Integrated Services Network is the ISO/IEC term that this ETS aligns with through its PTN wording.
- PINX - Private Integrated Services Network eXchange is the ISO/IEC term replaced here by PTNX.
- CTN - Corporate Telecommunication Network is a name sometimes used for PTNs.
- C reference point - The reference point whose information flows are separated in the specified PTNX configuration.
- T reference point - The other reference point whose information flows are also separated in the specified PTNX configuration.
Who uses SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003?
This standard is used by telecommunications standards writers, PTN architects, and engineers describing PTNX behavior or network structure. It is also useful to private network administrators and system suppliers who need a shared reference model and consistent terminology for PTN-related specifications.
What changed in SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003 from the previous edition?
SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003 adopts ISO/IEC 11579-1 (1994) with agreed modifications. The ETS text adds the PTN-specific scope for separated C and T reference point flows, adds ETS 300 415 as a normative reference, and replaces the PISN/PINX wording with PTN/PTNX terminology. The foreword also states that the ETS content replaces CENELEC ENV 41004.
Which standards are used with SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003?
| Standard / part | What it contributes |
|---|---|
| ISO/IEC 11579-1 (1994) | The international reference configuration text that this ETS endorses with modifications |
| ETS 300 415 | Terms and definitions for PTN and PTNX |
| ETS 300 475-2 | Reference configuration for High-Speed PTN eXchanges |
| ETS 300 475-3 | Reference configuration for PTNX Extension Lines |
What does the SIST ETS 300 475-1 E1:2003 document contain?
The document contains the foreword, the endorsement notice, the scope wording, the added normative reference, and the modified PTN and PTNX definitions. It also carries the publication history and the statement that the ETSI text is a European Standard based on ISO/IEC 11579-1 (1994) with agreed modifications. Its substance is a reference architecture and terminology package for PTN exchange configurations.
